there is actually going to be 3 topics to this thread. they are separated below.

1. Could anyone tell me exactly what layers of strata were layed down by the flood. And what layers were already there.

2. I'd also like to know how God made the animals, plants etc. Did they just poof into existence out of nothing? What does Genesis mean by the following phrases;
"Let the earth bring forth" (gen 1:11)
"and the earth brought forth" (gen 1:12)
"Let the waters bring forth " (gen 1:20)
"which the waters brought forth" (gen 1:21)
"Let the earth bring forth" (gen 1:24)
"the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground" (gen 2:7)
"And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air" (gen 2:19)

i'm just looking for the specifics of what God did. for example, i believe God controls the weather, and because of meteorology, i know HOW He does it. i'm just wondering if YEC has developed any of the "hows" or if it just believes "goddidit"

3. i'm also wondering what the time line is for the following. On the sixth day, God made man and woman. "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." (gen 1:27)

then God rested (stopped) on the 7th day. "And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made." (gen 2:2)

but now we see after the seventh day, that Adam has no mate. "but for Adam there was not found a help mate for him" (gen 2:20)

so a help mate is then made "And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man." (gen 2:22)

i'm wondering, when read literally, how all of that works out? what happened to the first woman made?

The pious answer will probably go along the lines of "Fallen man will never understand His ways."

Really, though, I'm sure you know by now that the whole YEC thought system practically runs on Goddidit. Goddidit is the perpetual motion machine which energizes their ideas. Because their thought system relies on God-of-the-gaps to claim glory for God (see the AiG article "The horse and the tractor: a parable" for an excellent example of the fallacy in action), they don't need any scientific explanation of the event itself: in fact, the lack of any scientific explanation is probably better for them. In their scheme of things if God does everything in the natural world in a way man cannot understand that somehow makes God a bigger, better God.

Besides, even if there were any scientific theories concerning the production of all biodiversity on earth (besides evolution, that is) it would probably take more than 24 hours and therefore be unsuitable for their interpretive framework.

3. i'm also wondering what the time line is for the following.

The normal YEC approach is to harmonize both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 passages - this is doable by reinterpreting the grammar a little (so that "Now the Lord God had formed the animals ... " refers to something God had already done before creating Adam) and then stuffing the whole thing into Gen 1's sixth day. Now, the interesting thing is that this requires Adam to see all the animals in the world, name them all, and then consider long enough to realize that he is lonely (though I doubt that would have taken him very long :p) ... all within the space of twelve daylight hours (for how much of this would he have been able to do at night?). I don't think even an auctioneer is up to the task.

"And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air" (gen 2:19)
First, "waters bring/brought forth" is not the greatest translation. It's better as "waters swarmed (or "teemed") with ...".

Anyway, the text seems to suggest God formed the animals out of the ground somehow, without giving specifics. I've never heard of anyone coming up with "specifics" on how. Why would the specifics be necessary, anyway? What difference does it make?

God made Adam, then showed him the animals, and then made Eve. This is on day six.

Now, the interesting thing is that this requires Adam to see all the animals in the world, name them all,
No, that is not correct. The text does NOT state Adam named "all the animals in the world". There are very specific categories mentioned - "beasts of the field" and "fowl of the air", and later "cattle" is mentioned - that's it. No aquatic animals are mentioned, no "creeping things", no "beasts of the earth" (ch.2 is "field", not "earth") as are mentioned in the earlier creation account. There are a LOT of animals excluded from this event. Further, if they are named at a taxonomic level broader than "species", this would furhter cut down the time required.

*cough, evolution, *cough cough

scientific advancements. giving the YEC scientists a reason for funding. if there is nothing to learn then why even believe it (from a scientific POV)?

i'm still looking for info on #1. no one seems to actually have a theory on that. it's funny that YEC is called a theory, but there really is no theory, no knowledge, no answers (as you said above "Why would the specifics be necessary, anyway?")
