  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

re "cross-dressing" being nurture:

I just now saw this thread.
Also the last time I posted in this group, the 'regulars' around her acted too rude, so I left. I'll give this one more try. -
Also please don't 'peg' people, by saying that conservative religious people aren't, living as liberated as some of us do.

The subject is both nurtured, & context-dependent:
Scottish-men proudly wear/display kilts, as they play their bagpipes, as part of their lifestyle.
&
CPR, ICU, & other such medically-intense Care-situations: Let me tell you, of course I'm gonna wear pants, as I wanna get to the person , before they're in rigor-mortis.
&
Building-projects, plus Car-maintenance: for sure I'm in over-alls then.
&
Gardening: again, I'm in my Levi's; never in pantyhose & a dress.
&
Sleeping: I used to wear pj's, but my Sweetie's T-shirts I like best.
&
Carrying babe around: again in Levi's, with kiddo in *Snugli  carrier*
&
church: considering the last time I attended church, was singing in last years :D Christmas-choir, well I wore a dress; but
I'm sure JESUS would accept any singer in pants too.
&
Skating: yes, I've ice-skated  in jeans before, but Skating-dresses serve us skaters much better.

Now, as a liberated-woman I rarely wear make-up, or jewelry for that matter, & leave my beautiful hair flying in the breezes. - otoh, for Halloween & other relevant occasions, Sweetie wears wigs, make-up, jewelry, complete with ear-studs. Like I said, the conditions are imprinted/nurtured plus context-dependent.

Sure, that makes sense. But what about situations out of context? Eg, women buying actual men's garments simply because they're cheaper than the equivalent women's? Or men wearing traditionally female garments for the purposes of feel, look, comfort etc?

I've only just arrived in this thread because I've been having - shock, horror - a life outside Christian Forums for the last few days.

I'm very much in favour of cross-dressing. Men that dress like women are hot, and women that dress like men are even hotter. I can't resist a lady in a tux... Makes me go weak at the knees. *swoon*

Hmmm....okay....right then. :o

Cantata, if you saw me in a dress, you'd go weak at the knees too-for a sudden urge to bend down and throw up. ^_^

Hahaha.

My goodness, I can't believe how much society has changed around me since I was a kid though. You get threads like this crossdressing one and it barely raises and eyebrow. So very different from my upbringing and childhood.

Doesn't work for everyone, of course - but the same goes for any clothing. :) Some women look ridiculous in dresses.

I don't know why women in drag are so appealing to me... I suppose it's something about the juxtaposition of a feminine figure with the hard lines of male clothing that makes me feel all swoony. :p

Does anyone remember that Jean Paul Gaultier advert with the sailors? <3

Pantomime dames have been a big part of British pop culture for more than a century - we're very laid back about that sort of thing here. ;)

Haha, yes I did. I wasn't having a go at you btw. Just a bit of awkward humour on my part. Awkward because I'm not really used to this sort of thing.

I can honestly say that I don't know of a single instance where a dress wouldn't suit a woman. On my perspective anyway. Not all dresses of course. But a dress definately.

I don't know why women in drag are so appealing to me... I suppose it's something about the juxtaposition of a feminine figure with the hard lines of male clothing that makes me feel all swoony.

I'd be lying to you if I said that I can understand that. However, I can really appreciate a tallish female with a really nice figure in a nice pair of pants, sometimes even more than a dress or skirt. But anything else doesn't work for me. Women in overalls, boots, ties etc definately doesn't turn me on.

This reminds me of a funny incident about a whopping 20 yrs ago now. I was in a fancy dress buying a costume for a party. And I'm trying on this medieval outfit (robe, hat, black tights) and pull open the curtain in the change room and walk out to the woman behind the counter. She's doing some book work and glances at me and says in a very flat but genuine voice, "you look really good in tights".

I didn't actually believe her, I thought she was pulling my leg. Many, many years later I realised she was genuine.

Does anyone remember that Jean Paul Gaultier advert with the sailors? <3

I think you Brits have definately been some alternative trend setters. Can't knock Brits though. They have given me some of my favourite things, Jaguar cars, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, roast dinners etc.

My wife says that I'm more English than the English, hahaha. I love English cars, music, food etc.

I have yet to meet anyone including an Englishman that likes English food.

And nothing personal as I happen to be very fond of our English brothers and sisters.

ROFL....^_^ ^_^ I just really like traditional English roast meals. I heard a joke once that was hilarious. This guy was saying how during WW2, the Germans should have dropped cook books on London instead of bombs.

I know that's terrible but very funny.

Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding?
Roast Welsh lamb and mint sauce?
Scouse?
English Breakfast?
High tea?
Lancashire hot-pot?
Lincolnshire sausages?

BTW, cantata's right; cross-dressing is almost a national institution in Britain.

Fair enough. :)

It's easy for me to forget that this is not familiar territory for a lot of people. I'm a bisexual woman with mostly very open-minded friends who share my sex-positive, liberal attitudes, so I tend to think of this stuff as being kind of commonplace.

I can honestly say that I don't know of a single instance where a dress wouldn't suit a woman. On my perspective anyway. Not all dresses of course. But a dress definately.

There was a girl at my school who was a swimmer for the county team. She had the broadest shoulders I have ever seen on a woman. Pretty much any dress just looked weird on her.

Here's one of my favourite cross-dressing images - it's the lovely k.d. lang plus Cindy Crawford in a compromising position. :p

k-d-lang-and-cindy-crawford-celebrities-28913.jpg

I love women in waistcoats, ties, suits, &c. - and I also like the combination of some of those elements with more feminine things. Skirt + shirt + tie = way hot.

This reminds me of a funny incident about a whopping 20 yrs ago now. I was in a fancy dress buying a costume for a party. And I'm trying on this medieval outfit (robe, hat, black tights) and pull open the curtain in the change room and walk out to the woman behind the counter. Nice legs, eh? :p

English food? What's that? o_0

Seriously - we barely have a cuisine here, unless you mean fish 'n' chips and pies and chip butties, which are nothing much to be proud of! Maybe I just don't notice it because I live here...

That Cindy image was veeeeery nice. But I must confess the K.D. Lang image did nothing for me.

Haha, you sound like dear old dad. But he also says that the Germans are worse. They just have a range of sausages and that's about it. No wonder Hitler wanted to conquer other nations. He couldn't stand any more of the Fatherland cuisine.

One day in 1939 he just snapped:

"Das sausage drive unt crazy....aaaarrrrrggggghhhhhhh. Hess, let's go to France. Snell"

"Very good Mein Fuherer".

Hahahaha.

I would be seriously worried if K.D. Lang did anything for anyone.

You know, before I joined up here on CF and especially around here on ethics and morality, I never would have thought so too. But I realise that the world doesn't spin on everyone elses axis.

Man, that sounds like a bad pop song lyric. Maybe Elton John Pliny?

*wink*

There are some very good German dishes and here are a few examples.
Paprika Schnitzel
Fresh Sauerkraut
Fish with apples and onions
Currywurst
Jagerschnitzel
Pork Schnitzel
Pork Rouladen
Schweinsmedallions mit Sommermajoran

My goodness! Are you sure that's a German dish? It sounds more like an aircraft part off a Luftwaffe plane.

I don't not fancy femme women or women in women's clothes :p I just happen to like a bit of gender-bending too.

I'm very eclectic in my tastes. :)

Well that's interesting. I genuinely mean that, not sarcastic or anything. I'll tell you something funny about that incident with the medieval costume, as we're all being open and honest here.

Crossdressing is definately not my thing. But even I have to admit that I found those damn tights distrubingly comfortable.

Hahaha. There. I said it. Laugh away. Why not? I am. ^_^
