  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Seems like I am forever getting sidetracked!!!!! I started an afghan, but put it aside to make my son a sweater, which got laid aside so I could make a prayer shawl for a friend. Now I'll go back to the sweater, but it is not something I want to travel with, so it will get left behind when we go to PA mid-week for Thanksgiving. I am taking thread and snowflake patterns to play with for the long hours at the in-laws' house. I haven't even looked at the Aran book since the last time I posted  . I either need more hours in the day, more arms with which to crochet or clones to do everything else that gets in my way.;)

I delivered the prayer shawl on Sunday at church. Talk about timing--Donna's stepdad had died on Saturday morning. She loved the shawl and the meaning behind it. I had chosen a violet shade because violet is the color of memories and comfort for those who mourn. Turns out it is also the color of Donna's birthstone and her favorite color! Anyway, Donna seems to be dealing with her stepdad's passing with a sense of peace, sometimes it is beneath her tears, but I think she will be fine.

My friend Candy brought me a couple of surprises this week when she came to pick up her son after school. First was a baggie containing $22.00--it was from the sale of some things that were left over from the church craft sale. Candy took them to the school she teaches at and put them out on the craft table in the lobby. The other surprise was a bag from Michaels. Seems she'd hit a sale so she brought me 2 balls of Moda Dea Wild, 3 balls of Moda Dea's version of FunFur and 2 skeins of Homespun. I'm working on more scarves for her to take in to sell. She also posted my phone number in case anyone wants to special order something. (I'm not sure I like that idea--it I HAVE to make something it is a job. Crocheting is supposed to be fun!)

I LOVE to crochet! I buy the really neat yarns and make scarves, hats, shawls, ponchos, purses, afghans, you name it. Right now I'm working on a scarf with some yarn I bought at Hobby Lobby. The brand is Yarn Bee, line is Luscious and the color is Black Raspberry. It is so soft!

I've actually thought about selling some of my crocheted items on ebay. It's amazing how much people will pay for things like that. I mean I've seen Barbie dresses sell for 100s of dollars and afghans the same if not more.

Cool!

I've thought about a gift idea for a friend of mine. I haven't seen her in 6 years and just recently got back in contact with her. This being our first Christmas BACK together I wanted to give her something. But we're a bit tight on money and buying something just wouldn't have the same effect as making something, as I like to do. So, I decided to make her a little treasure bag of sorts. Something small, but useful.

GodFlute--

I got this from another site, but thought you might use it for your friend's treasure bag. Just make sure you copy thie list so she knows what each item is for :D .

An eraser--so you can make all your mistakes disappear
A penny--so you never have to say you're broke
A marble--in case someone says you've lost all yours
A rubber band-- to hold it all together
A string--to keep you connected
A safety pin--for safety's sake
A bobby pin--for a bad hair day
A hug -- to remind you someone cares. (use a Hershey's Hug candy)

I need a bit of help with a pattern. It's for a vest I'm making for my mom and I'm not quite sure what it's trying to get me to do. It says, "Dec 1 st at each edge. Repeat dec every row 6 times more - 38 sts. Work even until armhole measures 8 1/2 in." What am I supposed to be doing there? I ge the dec 1 at each edge, but from the repeat on I'm lost. Can anyone help me out here?

You will dec at each edge for another 6 rows ending with 38 stitches in the row. Then work even (no inc or dec) until the armhole area is 8 1/2 inches--measure from your first decrease row.

Does that help?

I love to crochet! However, I haven't done so in about two years. I plan on getting more yarn, and doing something different. I had been somewhat burned out, only making the same things over and over again. This time it will be something new. :)

Awesome! Mom got sick nd tired of me making the same things over and over again so she made me try something new. Thing is, each time I would make 'the same thing' I'd add a little twist to the patern to make it different than the rest.

Finally bit the bullet and began sewing my son's sweater together. This is the only part of sweaters that I hate. Have only the 2 looooooong seams and buttons left to do. Then I can start on Sara's shawl. I may have that done in time for Christmas for her. It only takes about 6 hours of work.
