dlamberth, I'd like to see your perspective on this.
My take? It's very simple. Life is infinitely creative with evolving infinite possibilities that are all connected in one way or another. A small sampling of the inner-connection and the Oneness of Life was shown to us in the OP which I found really interesting.

But to add a bit of God talk, mostly because I'm unable to separate the Divine from anything in this world/universe, where I differ from ever one else in this forum is that as a Panentheist I "experience" the Spark of Life as the Life Force of God running all through this Creation. I'm of the mind that the greatest harm done to this planet and Humanity was when God was taken out of the Earth and put into the Sky.

That's not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about some parasites bugging some birds, to the point of being "needlessly cruel," as pitabread put it.

I thought it was absolutely clear. The parasite has a lifecycle that is brutally cruel. To the bird and the snail. If it was designed it was designed by a someone perverse, who despises life, not someone who loves it.

Thank you, Phred.

dlamberth, care to address this please?

I'm interested in your panentheistic perspective.

Keep in mind though, that I'm talking about it being needlessly cruel in the context of being deliberately designed as such.

Right.

I'd like to see dlamberth explain this.

This line of questioning reminds me of Gandhi who, thanks to him and his religion, destroyed India.

People starve to death, while their "sacred cows" roam the streets right in front of them.

People also starve to death while others walk past them with pockets and bank accounts full of money.

Ask pitabread.
When looking from the perspective of a God who stand apart from His Creation sitting up in the sky somewhere where He Creates everything that exist, pitabread has an interesting argument that I have no answer for other than through the process of evolution. Also though, I want to point out that the parasite as described is OK with it all. It's just living and doing it's thing which I found really interesting. To make his point, petabread has anthropomorphized for effect of argument a natural occurring life cycle, that being the image of cruelty. But I have to ask, is that how Life see's it?

What can a panentheist god do about it?

I suspect pitabread has brought up a good example that pwns your benevolent panentheism.

Not a thing.
What pitabread explained is life.

From my perspective pitabread brought up a great example of the short comings of Biblical Creation.

Panenthiest tend towards the evolutionary process and life in nature from a non-dualistic, wholeness and Oneness perspective.

One way to understand Panenthiesmin in the present example is to dig deeper than the outer form and look at the "Life Force" of the snail, the birds, the parasite, the tree and everything in between. So I think the word benevolent is more fitting with the dualistic Christian image of God where God is separate and apart from any part of the cosmos.

I think pita, like so many others, just assumed that God created these things in Genesis 1.

Most people I talk to don't realize that God created cooties afterwards as punishment for sins.

And still does.

I think pita, like so many others, just assumed that God created these things in Genesis 1.

This is why I brought up the notion of multiple creation events. Since I know that a lot of creationists either don't believe those things existed prior or believe they were fundamentally different beforehand.

Most people I talk to don't realize that God created cooties afterwards as punishment for sins.

I know that the Fall is used as the reason why things like disease, parasites, etc., are in existence.

It doesn't explain how and why a creator would create those things though, and especially why the need to create things that harm organisms that have nothing to do with the purported human sin.

Such attempts to "explain" the existence of such things in that manner just speak to the fundamental illogical nature of creationist theology.

I think sometimes that people use the "I don't understand why ..." or "I'm confused as to why ..." as code for "How dare you!"

That's why I like your avatar so well.

It's a beautiful rose.

Nice and long-stemmed and fragrant.

With thorns.

A fitting picture of the Creation and the Fall.

Genesis 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
