Wow, you Atheist need to learn how to LISTEN, almost all of Dr. Hovind's info is from OTHER people so why are you blaming him for atleast informing you?

"Eat the meat and spit out the bones"

As for the Smithsonian killing Aboriginal people that is true.
Just like the Holocaust you can say it didn't happen but it did.

But hovind supports them. Not only that but quite a bit of it is written by Hovind, like the claim that evolution says things must happend without god. :)

However, you do have a good point. Hovind is an Ignorant Parot and should not be listened too. :D

Can you give us evidence to back up your claim, or will you be commiting slander?

Then he is still guilty of spreading misinformation. If he can't double-check his own sources and do proper research, even more reason not to trust the guy.

As for the Smithsonian killing Aboriginal people that is true.

I did some research into this and it appears might be some truth to the story (although it's obviously been tainted by bias). The only other material I could find, however, was an article on AIG: http://www.answersingenesis.org/home/area/magazines/docs/cen_v14n2p16.asp

I do have a couple bones to pick with the article, though.

The first is the bit about "Darwinist views about the racial inferiority". The prevailing cutural mindset at the time was that Europeans were inherently superior to other civilizations. This view existed prior to anything Darwin wrote (Darwin merely echoed this mindset in some of his writings).

Second, slaughter of other peoples on other lands is hardly unique in the 1800's. Just look at what the history of what the Europeans did the Natives on this continent.

Anyway, I'm going to dig a bit deeper to find out more about this issue (the obvious attempt to paint evolutionary theory as inherently racist is a bit thick in that article). But it wouldn't surprise me if some parts turned out to be factual.

Exactly. These five major beliefs are just that, beliefs. You cannot use science to prove them. That is why evolution is a THEORY.
If you had taken the time to read my post you would have noticed that I was pointing out that Evolution does not hold to most of these.

Please do us all of a favor and list some of these lies the Dr. Hovind has told. I would like to hear them.
Mr. Hovind himself knows they are not true. He is playing to a scientifically ignorant audience and he knows its. He is exploiting the scientific ignorance of his audience for the almighty $. This is neither Christian nor intellectually honest. Instead of speaking on behalf of Mr. Hovind, why don't you tell us what you know on these matters that causes you to agree with him. Start off with Isotopes -from your own knowledge, without cutting and pasting (because I am pretty good at finding them) And do not say that his audience is not scientifically ignorant because if they were not, there is no way they could swallow one ounce of that garbage.

"Theory" is a scientific term that has been adapted and misused by the public. A "Theory" in science means that it has already met and passed several round os teasting without falsification. It is not the same as saying. "I have a theory as to why Jim likes the color blue" that is so oftern used in casual conversation by lay people.

Creationism is also a theory only it has been falsified in the 1800's.

When you speak about beliefs-religion is a "belief" science wiorks with hypothesis, facts, laws, theories. A believe is an idea with nothing to support it other that emotion, stories and hear-say. You are confusing Theory with "hypothesis". It is not the Hypothesis of Evolution.

good point. if he didn't know what he was doing, he wouldn't have offered a $250k "prize"
His whole platform is nauseating. If he were truly a fellow Christian of these people, he would not charge them to hear what he considered to be "the truth". The whole idea is ridiculous in and of itself. A young Earth in no way proves a God, heaven or hell..that is the part I do not understand. So what exactly is it these people are paying a fellow Christian for? Bad Science and lies.

Well, it's not quite so simple. People flock to Hovind because he validates their beliefs. The same way people flock to John Edward (see sig).

And even if people are shown that Hovind is wrong about most of what he teaches, they would still buy into it, because they have too much emotionally invested in what he teaches (I remember a person on this very forum admit they only believe Hovind because he tells them what they want to hear).

Pete, yes I agree with what you are saying. My question is what is it they they want to hear and emotionally invest in? What this man has to say does no prove a God, after-life or a heaven. There is no correlation between a young Earth - this "stuff" he peddles and logic. These people also say God is eternal and always has been and always will be. So, for this Hovind to try to excite them into a frenzy that the Earth is young is silly on many levels. He is exploiting ignorance for his own financial gain. To go from a young Earth to a Heaven or Hell- now THAT is a Quantum Leap. :)

The reality is, though, that a lot of people are taught that unless they take the Bible as literally as possible, they are in danger of losing their faith. I have seen more than one Christian equate rejecting Young Earth Creationism with rejecting Christianity. And considering that polls suggest that almost half of the United States are YECs (I think it was around 45%), it's little surprise there is a market for what Hovind does.

OK Pete now that you have really depressed me....
Yikes 45% of Americans are YEC? (pulling hair)
I read and hear theings all the time on the dumbing down of America but this is really sad.

This belief really shows their true ignorance at the heart of the matter since their faith says God is eteranal. To accept logic and evidence is to reject faith- maybe so..maybe that is why so many have- SAD.

Hovind vehemently denies taking a salary from his ministry. Of course, I wonder if that's more for tax reasons than anything...
He would almost have to deny it. I guess they just charge for the tapes, etc, shows and donate it all ;)
