My cynical side has to take this piece with a grain of salt, as it is eloquently written in the opinion section by a Jewish author in an Israeli newspaper. It might serve well to further fuel stereotypes and hatred towards Muslims amongst the Israelis who read it.

The author does have some good points about the oppresive nature of Muslim regimes, and he does a good job of illustrating how a lot of young Muslims seem to be brainwashed into hating the West without knowing what they are hating. (Kind of like a lot of Americans hate the Middle East without knowing, but I digress.) If the exchange did in fact take place, it seems to me it another case of a militant Muslim taking advantage of the free speech that would be taken away from him should an oppressive militant Muslim come to power.

It is a propaganda war on both sides. The problem is that so many people are choosing sides too quickly. To me that says that they've been suckered. If one is truly unbiased when approaching this issue, then it wouldn't be so easy for someone to choose one side or the other.

Religiously, I side with and have sympathy for Israel, but politically, it is a very difficult decision and an opinion that I prefer not to discuss with anyone (whether supporters of Palestine or Israel) because of the hate that it stews. But I wonder, is peace really attainable there? I really don't think so.

I'm not surprised at all by the arab mindset toward the jews...they have been this way sinse Israel became a nation in 1948 .
And we all know that Armageddon ( Megiddo ) is in Israel...thus we know who the future enemy is , "Those who hate Israel".

It was God who chose to bring them back to the land he gave them...and there are many prophecies relating to this , here is but one such prophecy :

Zephaniah 3:20
At that time I will bring you back, even at the time I gather you; for 1 will give you fame and praise among all the peoples of the earth, when I return your captives before your eyes,' says the Lord.

I don't think God needs to conult the arabs about anything .

You miss the point Lacmeh , their fame and praise is in their many victories in war against the arabs etc etc .

And lets not forget many of their deeds...such as the raid on Entebee to free jewish hostages held by that madman Idi Amin of uganda .

In the early 80's they sent two fighter jets into Iraq and knocked out two of sadams nuclear plants , the list of their deeds is endless...and as for fame , there are more books written on Israel than any other nation on earth .
Maybe you should do a bit of reading...you may just learn something .

Well, bombing nuclear plants is realyl the smart thing to do, blow up the radioactive materials into the air. Thumbs up for such an action.

To the fame you can add, the shooting of a Palestinian child without punishment by an Israeli settler.
Or the glorious destroying of schools and hospitals and other infrastructure by the Israeli Army.
I am sure nobody would mind to be taken into custody as a healthy citizen and after being questioned suddenly have a few broken bones, due to "falling down". Praise the glorious police and Army they are the makers of miracles. Only within their jurisdiction transform healthy citizens into citizewns with broken bones and markings of hittings after just "questioning"

Once again Lacmeh... Polls show that the overwhelming majority of Israelies are for a Palestinian state. Yet those same people are going to re-elect sharon. Why you ask? Because nothing justifies terrorism. The guilty party are the evil doers who bring about the wrath of the state. Not the state trying to defend it's citizens. If not for Arafat they would have had a state back in 1994. He turned it down because they wouldn't allow the new state to have a military right away. Now why in the world would they do that?

Yeah sure a Palestinian state, but not Jerusalem as capital city, no removing of fanatical right wing settlers (the same, that think, that view killing Arabs as their God given right), no equal sharing of the most important ressource (water), no acceptance of the sovereignity of said state (Israeli military need not ask to pursue over the border), that´s really a generous offer.
Yeah right, the Israeli state wants peace. he wants peace so badly, that he continually builds houses for fanatical right wing Israelis in occupied terretory. Because we all know, that those fanatical right wing settlers are respecting Arabs and are the pinnacles of tolerance
