  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, snark tends to be hard to get across over the written format of discussions on the internet. Especially as I have Aspergers, which makes it tough for me to catch it even in real life.

I would not say the Antifa has a love of violence, just a hatred of fascism (especially Nazi fascism).

Antifa are extremely violent, and consider anyone not far left fascist.

I don't know about the latter, but as far as the former goes, that doesn't seem to be true; I can't find any evidence of a terrorist attack by Antifa or someone identifying as a member of Antifa, ever.

The odd thing? Almost every terrorist attack in the US in the past year has been by right-wing extremists...

They never call them terrorist attacks. Remember the Berkeley riot? Battle of Berkeley? Inauguration day destruction? All Antifa /black block.

The blacks and the anti-fascists are the bad guys?

Does that mean the whites and the fascists are the good guys?

Black block, not black people. And no, the fascists aren't the good guys. Both groups were bad, and only the locals were not the bad guys.

The anti-fascists are bad? Do you have anything to back that up with?

In the case of Charlottesville, it definitely wasn't the counter-protesters who were in the wrong. Considering that none of them did anything violent, nor did any of them shout things about murdering Jews or have a bunch of flaming torches, or hold giant Nazi flags...

The idea that both groups were in the wrong is simply and provably false.

What? Neo is the accurate term. Nazis would be members of The Nationals Socialist Workers Party and by definition German and one would expect of Aryan decent. Most neo-Nazis have far less German blood than I do. Not that I would be acceptable to a historical Nazi. Far too much Irish in me.

Claiming this was a <not neo> Nazi march brings up the image of really old men most probably in wheelchairs with oxygen tanks, a threat soon to be extinct.

These folks fly the old school flags, chant the old school slogans; let them have the old school name...

... and may they have the old school response.

‘Hate group’ map lists mainstream conservative organizations

Brad Dacus was thousands of miles away in California last weekend when the Charlottesville protest erupted, so he was flabbergasted when CNN labeled his Pacific Justice Institute a “hate group.”

“Here are all the active hate groups where you live,” said the CNN wire story headline on Chicago’s WGN-TV website.

You can like or dislike these groups, but I'd argue that it is rather irresponsible to listing them, along with their locations, alongside such groups as the KKK after a week of the media praising people for assaulting them and the Neo-Nazis.

That really depends on their message...

I don't necessarily agree with SPLC's loose definition of "hate group", but at the same time...

Why is that? Because they list all of the black hate groups right alongside the Kkk?

I'm glad that the mask has slipped to the point where it's almost completely off.

If you support the traditional teachings of Christianity, you are part of a hate group, at least in the eyes of the SPLC and their supporters.

And this just simply isn't true. They don't list groups that simply "support the traditional teachings of Christianity." As an example, if they list groups solely based on that, why is the Southern Baptist Convention not listed. In terms of supporting traditional Christian values (at least on these LGBT issues), why is the Mormon Church, or Catholic Church listed -- both of which helped spearhead Prop 8 in California?

The reason these groups made the SPLC hate group list is because they have promoted falsehoods to help support their opposition to LGBT issues. This is the important distinction -- it is that these groups have lied about LGBT issues, and not simply for the opposition or for being supportive of "traditional teachings of Christianity."

Progressives like to point out that killing Nazis is an American tradition, but you guys seem to forget that so is killing Commies. Maybe you should be careful with your wishes.

No, because I had a tough time with their inclusion of the anti-gay groups. But the more I think about it, the more I'm okay with it.
