Congressman Lynn Westmoreland is co-sponsoring a bill to display the 10 Commandments in House and Senate.

Well, Steven Colbert interviewed him, and asked him to name the 10 Commandments.

His response: "What are they? You want me to name them all? Um... Don't murder. Don't lie. Don't steal. Um... I can't name them all." (about 3:25)

PS - He also says we should get rid of the Department of Education to decrease the deficit. ;)

Getting rid of the DoE is actually a pretty decent idea. A growing number of people are getting sick of the public school system and are calling for massive reform or abolishment.

Even though it's not what the thread is about, I'll say a little bit about it. I don't think abolishing it is a good idea, but there needs to be massive reform.

Honestly, I think the most important thing to do is get rid of school districts. As far as I know, this isn't a national policy, though.

Might actually be a good idea for congressmen & women to be reminded daily about the biblical prohibition of such things as lying and stealing.

Why should any one in government be reminded of anything Biblical? They can do that on their own time, as doing it through the government violates the First Amendment.

The 10 Commandments aren't needed to "remind" them of that, anyway. It's already illegal to steal, and lying under oath (which, in my opinion, every active politician should make) is perjury.

I was being sarcastic.

It should still be on the front page, you can watch the full segment.

This is quite possibly the greatest 5 minutes of televesion ever. Reading transcripts simply doesn't do it justice. You have to see their expressions, hear the pauses, and feel the awkwardness to fully appreciate it.

As for the interview itself... I don't think that a Congressman who is unable to compose a gramatically correct sentance at least 50% of the time should be allowed to touch the Department of Education.
