Things have really exploded now that NASA have moved somewhat to a place where private companies can launch things, rather than keeping that exclusive to them. You see many companies getting involved.

I've attended quite a few launches (I occasionally do social networking press with them) and they're constantly launching new things from a variety of business concerns.

While working in Florida, I've had the opportunity to sit through a number shuttle launch attempts, and one actual launch. It was great. I haven't yet seen any of commercial launches, but I'm looking forward to that opportunity.

There's nothing quite like experiencing the roar of those rockets up close and personal.

Commercialisation of space exploration is welcome. The likes of OSC and SpaceX are doing great things, and getting costs down in the process.

NASA's work has made huge amounts of money for the US; their innovations in so many fields were taken forward very effectively by US companies. And now private companies are making the innovations themselves.

My advice is, get shares in these companies whenever you're given the chance. When a company captures an asteroid made of diamonds and puts it into low Earth orbit for mining, you want to own stock in that company

Let's just hope they don't build spaceships as cheaply as they build oil wells
