Well, the question is really this: do you want to worship as closely as possible as how the Apostles worshiped or do you want to follow something some man made up 16 centuries later? Do you want to believe what the Apostles taught their disciples, that which was faithfully handed down from generation to generation by those who died rather than compromise the faith once given to the Apostles, or do you want to follow some disciple of a man who left the ancient faith in the 16th century?
Do you believe the promise of Christ that the gates of hell would not prevail against the Church? If so, then there is still the Church which holds fast to that which was taught from the beginning.
Everyone who says you should read the Bible to help in your decision is forgetting one thing: everyone in every denomination, both here in this forum as well as in the world, will say that the Bible supports their belief system. So what that means is that it comes down to
interpretation, doesn't it?
Therefore, since it is a matter of interpretation, then you should wish to know how the very first pastors of the Christian faith interpreted the Bible, right?
So my first suggestion to you would be to get the small, three-volume set of Jurgen's
Faith of the Early Fathers
Follow that up with study online by Googling the various Early Fathers you will find in the quotes in the book and read their works. A little more tedious, but it will give you a good handle on what doctrines go all the way back to the beginning and which were made up by men.
