  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well salvation is salvation, but please do share.
Thanks

I was referring to part of your question...

...truly saved Christians...

There is no such thing for Orthodox Christians. The vocabulary simply does not exist.

Orthodox Christians do not point to any point in time that they become 'saved'.

We were saved 2000 years ago on a Friday about 3pm.

We are being saved.

We will be saved.

God be gracious to me a sinner.

Thank you. It even line up with Christ's words:"He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned."
There is a reason the bolded part does not say "is". We have not found our selves in heaven or hell yet. We have not heard the words of judgement:
"Well done, good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’ or "As for this worthless slave, throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

This should be interesting and potentially entertaining, albeit perhaps beyond the scope of "confession."

I don't mind the discussion at all.

I try not to derail other's threads, but once I have the points of view of others on my question, (and see what I actually should have asked, usually, lol) - then I don't mind.

It's more productive (imo) to allow the discussion to proceed where it will, rather than cut things off. It may not be that helpful to someone searching someday, but I think many more hours are spent while threads are current than the possibility that someone may someday later search something out.

God bless your charitable heart.

I am troubled at the idea that someone would find the subject of Soteriology to be entertainment.

Soteriology - OrthodoxWiki

This concept of theosis, rejects that salvation is a positive result to a legalistic dilemma, but is instead a healing process.

God be gracious to me a sinner.

It is definitely not a game for our entertainment.

I was wondering what brother NorrinRadd thought would be "potentially entertaining" about the gospel message of salvation. So far no answer's been given.

Saint Paul gave a summary of salvation in a passage I quoted before, Ephesians 1:3-14. I'd quote it again but I wonder if it is what folk want to hear?

Anyway, salvation is about God's grace in Jesus Christ. Our part is to remain in him.

God bless :)

Thanks for correcting that second sentence. Although the original kinda fit.:p

In what way would it be entertaining?

The assumptions implied in the certitude with which some of the opinions were expressed suggests the potential for panties to end up in a wad. That can be entertaining.

Although as Lutherans we do employ the vocabulary of "saved" from time to time, probably due to many of us living in constant contact with American Evangelicals, our theology leads us to speak of salvation in the same way as you have spoken here.

We were saved by what took place on a hill outside a town in Palestine 2000 or so years ago, we are being saved by the gracious will of God, and we will be saved along with all of God's children on the Last Day.

Honestly, Lutherans usually prefer the term 'justified' to 'saved'. Our soteriological doctrine is known as the Doctrine of Justification, and we say that by this doctrine the Church stands or falls.

Soteriology - OrthodoxWiki

God be gracious to me a sinner.

Thank you very very much for that link.

It answers a question I have been getting at and meaning to ask. And inspires another. And helps me (I think) understand some other theology.

I think it might be too much of a veer-off from here though ... I believe I will make another thread, but I want it in GT and not soteriology. I don't know what to call it yet though. I hope you and any interested parties will join.

OK, I think I will call it "Theosis - healing & works?" or something like that, since it touches on my questions. Thank you so much.

My finger pressed both the r and the t in 'far'

I confess the typo. It was a tiny bit naughty.

Ah, well thank you for not keeping me in the dark.

My husband would have laughed as well. He chuckles every time the word comes up.

Forgive me, but I think men can sometimes regress to boys over certain things. :p

I'm sure the Lord loves a child-like spirit though.

Don't be deceived, women can behave like little girls over certain things too :p

Ah, yes, I know we can. Much to the embarrassment of my teenage daughter, who has not yet learned to care less of what others may think. ;)
