Another thing to consider is the venues Donald Trump is now forced to hold his rallies. He apparently has a bad reputation for not paying his bills. Many more secure venues are not available to use for political rallies. I believe some cities even refused to allow Trump rallies now. Trump rallies bring a lot of hassles to the host communities in America. People take all this stuff for granted but Trump rallies cause collateral issues everywhere he goes.

This kid was a registered republican too. It supports my view that Mr Trump inspires anger and hatred from both sides of the aisle, and it's why he is so counterproductive and dangerous for America. Donald Trump has allowed his ambitions to supercede his worth, with a lot of help from his fans. But people apparently want more of this destructive behavior. Let's add more fuel to the fire shall we? Where's his next rally? Americans have become the Roman mob. Win the crowd Maximus, win the crowd and get whatever you want!

I'm sure we will find out more about it. Because the shooting is so widely perceived as a security failure someone will have some 'splainin' to do. I expect that a Congressional hearing is in the offing.

There would be a thorough investigation by DHS and the Secret Service regardless of that perception. They need the space and time to conduct that investigation. I would certainly be examining the advance team responsible for securing the site...

They don't need 2 1/2 years to do so though. They need 2 1/2 days. If they can't come out with a report that quick then they're just trying to make everyone forget about it.

So he's an expert marksman at the tender age of 20?

Is his age remarkable? I was an expert marksman with an M-16 at the tender age of 18 in the US army..

I expect there will be preliminary reports. Obviously, the Secret Service needs to correct any lessons learned immediately.

Well we saw that with Obama though too. The crowds went into a euphoric frenzy when it came to him. Not meaning to be unkind to President Biden but he surely is having a hard time winning the crowds these days. Think you need to consider you DO need some of that too!

Source?

This was for a political rally for a candidate not in office, not an official government event. You need permits to even block out street parking. I imagine more than a few people getting testy if their businesses were locked down because the other guy was having a rally nearby.
Former presidents are entitled to full Secret Service protection.

What gives anyone the idea he was an expert marksman? Even in the Air Force training I received (basically no training, just trying to make sure we could safely handle a weapon and shoot at a target), decades ago, we shot once on a target range at simulated targets of 75 meters (250 feet) and, with no real previous gun training (I believe I had shot at a range once prior) I was within one or two shots of qualifying for marksman. If I had any real experience with guns, I would have qualified as a marksman.

To miss three times at that distance, this was no marksman.

i heard it was 300 and 8 shots were fired not 3

He missed by like, an inch.

No, an inch off would have still hit Trump squarely in the head. Instead, at least based on one comment I've seen that allegedly was from the Secret Service, it isn't clear any actually hit Trump -- that the bullet hit the teleprompter and it was glass (shrapnel) coming from the teleprompter that hit Trump's ear. Regardless, it is still a miss by at least 2.5, if not 3 inches, and it was the only one of the shots that appear to have come close to Trump -- not a marksman by any definition.

No sir. I need less politics in my life, not more. We don't elect people for crowds. It's not entertainment, we have plenty of good options for entertainment. Biden and Trump are virtually tied in polls. They are both very poor choices so I expect this to be another poor election for us poor Americans to endure. Why anyone would attend a political rally in America today escapes my understanding.

And yet, the shooter was confident enough in his ability to hit the mark that he attempted the shot. Even experts don't hit perfectly all the time.
