I was circumcised as an infant. It's never bothered me.

That's sort of like saying "My left hand pinky was cut off at birth in a culture that traditionally done it, and it never really bothered me". Why would it?

I think the concept of it is somewhat obscene. There simply no biological necessity outside of culture identity that such mutilation was used for at its inception.

I do it for myself because I like that way better. :) But I prefer hair on men, men are supposed to be hairy. It's unnatural for men to shave their arms or their legs. But it looks better on women to shave under arms and legs and stuff.

ah ... ALL humans are 'supposed to be hairy'. And it's 'unnatural' for WOMEN to shave their armpits and legs. while it might appear to be normal because others do it, doesn't mean it is normal. it's a sexual fetish, to expect and need hairlessness in females. it's so deeply creepy that I don't think I could stand in the same room as a man who expected me to look like a 12 year old, much less take one seriously.

edited to add: when you say women look 'better' without body hair - what are you comparing to? have you spent a lot of time in Europe, around the far more common hairy female armpits there? or are you simply responding to the cues around you, and the high school taunting of that one girl with hairy legs? seriously, how is it possible that you think we look better when we're corrupted from our natural form? do you hate women that much?

and edited again to say: you're a CHRISTIAN! this means you believe god made a mistake in his design of females. so you know better than god, then? you're fixing his stupid mistake? honestly, do you theists ever think through the implications of what you do?

The operative words being '40 years ago'. As far as I can tell, Australians seem more inclined to take their progress cues from Europe. Now that I think about it, are progress cues taken from America, by anyone?
Before the 2nd world war we took our cues from Europe; after the war it was ''LBJ all the way'' (so to speak)...since the war, religion generally has fallen away in Australia...i think in the states ,a nominal Christianity is still quite strong and specifically Protestantism with its allegiance to the old testament could explain, at least in part, why male genital mutilation is still practiced .

Yet Australia is far more progressive and egalitarian (Europe style) than America. I think perhaps it's the Commonwealth factor? British influence has always been much stronger in Australia.

I do know that Australian doctors are also opposed to circumcision - and have refused to do it for quite some years now. I would expect few younger Australian men are circumcised. Apparently it's considered an 'old man' thing amongst the young. And no one wants an old man penis - not even old men :)

..........if we are more 'progressive' than America-then it would be just barely; it seems to me we are minions mostly , or at best appendages ,but perhaps, or probably ,along with a lot of other submissive outposts of the Empire- just plain warts joined to the hip of the USA - in our politics, economics,tv and tennis shoes we are America's b..ch. It is starting to change though as people go outside the education system, outside Hollywood and the corporate media and learn for ourselves what is going on in the bigger pond -via the www.
Circumcision/Genital mutilation was done as by rote when i was a boy, virtually everyone-i missed the cut (i couldn't resist that pun!!) because of sickness at the time- i remember complaining to my mother about it when i was about 10 because i was copping flak at school- such is the power of the 'Herd'....these days it doesn't happen much here outside of the obvious fundamentalist Zealots.

while it might appear to be normal because others do it, doesn't mean it is normal.

I'm pretty sure that "most people do it" is actually the definition of normal.

it's so deeply creepy that I don't think I could stand in the same room as a man who expected me to look like a 12 year old, much less take one seriously.

I suspect judging other people on what they find attractive or prefer in a partner is actually what's "Creepy". Saying you couldn't stand in the same room as someone because of this seems extremely judgmental.

you're a CHRISTIAN! this means you believe god made a mistake in his design of females. so you know better than god, then? you're fixing his stupid mistake?

Would you say the same for people who prefer ladies with make up on, dyed hair, piercings? Are all of these ascetic choices "knowing better than God."?

Let people do what they want with their own bodies, and like what they like in other people.

I'm uncut, my dad is uncut, my son is uncut, and we're all doing just fine. I personally see no reason for circumcision, I have had no issues.

Americans have their boys circumcised because everyone else does it, certainly not a good reason to do things (ya know if everyone jumped off a bridge, yadda yadda yadda).

It isn't NORMAL to have hairless armpits and legs. It's artificially produced.

And men who need women to look like 12 year olds to function sexually ARE creepy. Grown women have hair. Girls do not.

And I absolutely decry makeup and hair dye - if it's used to mask the natural appearance. I have no problem at all with piercings, thematic makeup, and hair dyed colours (purple, blue, hot pink, etc) because these are creative expression, not masking nature. An entirely different thing. Women who put 'ordinary' makeup on every day, or when socialising, don't believe they are enough for the world as is. That's tragic. Ditto the dying of grey hair. Absurd.

Science has shown foreskin actually is not that great to have. You get more UTIs for example. And really when it comes to the sensation of sex.... sex is sex. Foreskin or not. Its still great. Unless a guy has had sex with foreskin, then got it cut off to see how sex is, no one can really comment on how sex is before and after.

Where to start with adults who can't cope with the natural human body, in the year 2016? How about with the MEN who can't function sexually unless a woman looks like a prepubescent girl or a young boy. Many such men also require women to be cartoonishly overt in presentation - make up, high heels, etc, in order to function. Some snarks refer to this as latent homosexuality. I prefer to view it (when it isn't latency) as sort of very corrupted and arrested development. The sexual appetites are frozen at about age 14 - then twisted into something that can only function via signals that have nothing to do with what women actually look, feel, and smell like. It's an incredibly emasculating fetish .. and does tend to point to a deep fear of women.

That was a nice little rant you had there.

Given the level of snarky comments so many women make about men's beards, maybe we should direct the same level of scorn at women - seeing as, you know, prepubescent boys can't grow facial hair?

It's all the men's fault of course. Nothing to do with the women who promote such a look or those who are content to look that way.

Thanks ...it is one of my favourite rant topics :p

Meantime, where did I blame men? In this instance, I directed my rant to a female who felt she 'looks better' if denuded like a 12 year old. I also spent a bit of time on female artifice (masking the natural form).

Of course you're quite right about the double standard when it comes to beards. Personally I loathe clean shaven male faces. It's not only creepily feminine, but is yet more of this fetish for looking 12 years old.

LOL Those women are nuts. I love facial hair on men. I prefer it over clean shaven. :) Facial hair makes a guy look more manly. :)

I think you are taking it too seriously and getting all worked up over nothing. ;) No one asked me to shave I just did it on my own, there's no hidden meaning behind it, it's just my own personal preference. But if a guy doesn't like it I have no problem letting it grow. No hidden deep meanings. ;) And I also prefer men with facial hair, but I wouldn't say men with no facial hair are trying to look like kids. Some men just like to shave. Just relax, shaved or unshaved is just a personal preference it doesn't have any kind of deep hidden meaning. ;)

You could, if you were sufficiently bloody minded, extrapolate that women who can only respond sexually to a clean shaven man are latently lesbian :p

LOL! :D I didn't know what to say when she first let out that rant. I was like huh? LOL

actually there are always 'hidden meanings' behind social conventions. the point of progress is to look at them and determine if they still apply, and further, make sure they're not counterproductive.
