Let's not pretend like God is evil because of circumcision.

No it doesn't make God evil if someone chooses to circumcise, after all even Jesus was circumcised. But for me personally I won't make that choice for my son, I will let him decide to get it if he wants to because once it's cut it's gone. I'm not sure if it matters either way, which is why I said I'm open minded. Circumcision is not the end of the world but it's also not necessary unless for health reasons.

Honestly I question how much, if any, anesthesia is used. Since more and more of my friends are becoming moms for the first time, I'm seeing updates from them on FB about how they couldn't even be in the room when it was done (apparently most doctors recommend the moms NOT be in the room because it's so distressing to them). And they could hear their baby screaming/crying from the waiting room.

That's what I couldn't take. I could not take watching or hearing him scream. :( I could not be there at all. :( Years ago I felt horrible and guilty for days when I got my cat fixed. So I could not take my baby being circumcised. :( If it gets done it will be because the father wanted it done. Left up to me I would not have him circumcised.

Wow I didn't know it was that many.
Strangely, Europe is a drastically different picture. A clear divide between 1st and 2nd/3rd world countries wouldn't surprise me, but only about 9% of UK men are circumcised in comparison to 81% in the US. The unspoken cultural rift...

I remember when my friend's son was 3 months premature and how he had to stay in the hospital for 3 months till when his original due date would have been. He was so tiny and weighed like 1 pound and could fit in one hand. He did good in the hospital and just before he was about to go home she had the poor thing circumcised. I remember thinking then that since he had already been through so much having been premature that I would not have wanted to put added stress on him of getting him circumcised. I didn't say anything to her because it's her child but I was thinking it. But he's okay now. He's like almost 5 yrs old and you can not tell he was ever premature.

I was more traumatized by being compressed through the birth canal (against my will), grabbed by my legs and held upside-down (against my will) violently assaulted and abused by a health care professional until I was screaming bloody murder (against my will) and slashed by a scalpel until my umbilical cord was severed(against my will). When they came for me later I thought “Meh, so this is what it is like living in Russia”.

wrong, as far as I know, jewish tradition at least has it before a child is of the age they can be.
Torah stipulates circumcision is to be done on the 8th day after being born.

Yep, I saw the stats about the US and was astonished. I wonder whether that whole for profit medical system plays a part, how much money do doctors make from this unnessary procedure?

A bit conspiratorial I admit.

When our son was born (30 years ago) there was very little to the "procedure." There was a small plastic cap that fit over the "tip" and it had a groove on the outside. The foreskin was then put over the cap and a silk thread tied around it, cutting off circulation at the groove line. There was no anesthesia and he did not seem uncomfortable. In less than a week the cap and foreskin dropped off in the diaper. No blood, no mess, no crying. And where the groove was, it left about 1/16 of an inch at the base of the foreskin so it was not cut "too tight" which can damage nerve endings.

Don't remember the numbers from the itemized bill but the cost was not much, about the same as dispensing meds.

I wouldn't be surprised if it does. There are other very drastic differences between US and UK when it comes to health that may be related to money. In the US, wisdom teeth are routinely removed. In the UK, wisdom teeth are only removed if they are actually causing a problem. In the US, most women rely on birth control pills to prevent pregnancy. In the UK (and many others, Australia, NZ, China etc), the IUD is the birth control method of choice. The IUD, for the record, is long term, has fewer side effects, and is overall MUCH cheaper than filling prescriptions for daily pills month after month. Except in the US, where women have had to pay out of pocket up to $900 for the darn thing.

Partly related to money, but you could also make the argument of preventative care for your wisdom teeth example. A country that has socialized medicine is going to be much stricter about the cost-benefit analysis, whereas people in the U.S. will usually get the information and weigh the benefits and risks for themselves.

They still have a g spot that can be aroused through multiple ways.

Probably depends on how much they remove. Even the so-called "G spot" is attached to the roots of it. So if they pull that deep, that is gone too.

I read a statement a couple of decades back by supermodel Iman who, as a child, was forced to undergo this mutilation by her mother. She said she had absolutely no sexual feelings or stimulation at all. EVER.

Not good.

If I was to have it done on my child I think that's the best way to do it. It sounds like it is pain free.

Yikes! :sigh: Yeah when that's done on women it usually takes away all feeling. I think they still do that in some countries too.

I think any kind of Genital mutilation is monstrous...and i think that the high rate of male circumcision in the USA is simply because Christianity in the States is really much closer to Judaism than it is to Christianity ie. the Old Testament is believed in/followed more than the New Testament by the bulk of Americans....(obviously there is an active minority of New Testament Christians).

I no longer support circumcision of infants. I think you should let the child grow and decide for their self.

The foreskin serves many good purposes and what problems it can bring can easily be solved by good hygiene. Considering that a major reason why circumcision is so popular in the USA is because people wanted to reduce masturbation in children that's another reason I don't like circumcision.

What do you guys think?

Is it still relevant to Christian living?

:o

Seriously ... you're asking about this archaic mutilation in 2016?

In my country no doctor will do it unless there's a medical reason to do so. They've refused it for at least two decades. I think some Jewish doctors will still do it, but only for practising jews.

I thought circumcision went out in the 1980s.
