Well, no...
Why would I believe I deserve the death penalty?
Because the penalty for sin is death.
I take it that whether or not you give credence to the notion of sin, that based on Judeo/Christian scripture, you would be guilty of some form and degree of sin. I have met very few that would profess perfection... but some have done so in jest.
Why would I believe I offend God?
Well, if you think that you can please a perfect and Holy God who is offended by sin and do so in your own strength, then I suppose there wouldn't be much need in a Redeemer. I know that I am in need of one through; thus, the whole Christian profession and so on.
Isaiah 59:20
"The Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who repent of their sins," declares the LORD.
Why would I believe I am estranged from God?
Adam and Eve were estranged how, by being disobedient in one simple instruction?
Personally, I have proven that I was estranged, because I did not do what I ought to have done and I am still striving to be in accordance with the Spirit.
If you claim that you haven't sinned and do not have a need of a Redeemer, well then I suppose I have a choice between believing that claim and what I read and accept for not only myself, but as applicable to everyone:
Romans 3:21-26
21But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.
There is no difference, 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24
and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished 26he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
