It was a couple of brothers in the faith who faithfully witnessed to me. The Holy Spirit then did the rest by convicting me of my sin and causing me to see that I needed God. As time went by, I just came to this realization. When I finally prayed to God for forgiveness and asked Jesus into my heart, I really didn't know what would happen, but I experienced His forgiveness immediately and lost my desire to practice certain habits and acquired a desire to adopt godly practices to know more about Him. This change in heart happened immediately. It wasn't something I had to "work for" since I wouldn't have known at the time what it was I was supposed "work for". This is a summary but it's essentially true.

My grandfather was a Baptist preacher. I grew up loving Jesus and knowing He loved me. When I was 11, I accepted Jesus as my personal saviour and was baptised. I had always accepted Him, I just decided that was a good time to make it "official". LOL
I've been going to church ever since, well until recently and that's due to being housebound by illness, not because I wouldn't like to go.
He's been with me my whole life and I feel truly blessed for it. Not to say I haven't sinned and always lead a good life. We all sin. Just to say I started my walk with The Lord early and I'm grateful for that. It's saved more than my soul, it's saved me from falling into a lot of problems my friends experienced in high school and such.

I'm an Episcopalian, and we don't get "saved", but we get confirmed into the faith after being baptized as an infant. I've never been confirmed, because I have problems with the Anglican denomination as a whole that I am trying to work out. However, I am still a Christian.

Hi feral - I told you my "story" several months ago. I was saved the summer after my husband's death. I finally prayed and prayed and prayed and begged God to remove the bitterness in my heart at his death and at what my life would be like without him. I began attending a spirit-filled church (Episcopalian) and reading the Bible. The Holy Spirit has been teaching me for the last 3 years what it means to be Christian. So much to learn; so little time! :D

I don't hold to the new doctrine of "Sinner's Prayer-Buddy Jesus" "saved." I go by the orthodox theology myself, which is that upon baptism, one is sealed (though they can loose their salvation if they stray).

I think the title to this thread is funny. Do you think just because you are baptised, you are saved? No one is saved until the final judgement. I know plenty of people who have been baptised Christian yet have no chance of being 'saved' at this moment. You will however be saved if you follow the Lord's commandments and live righteously with faith in Him.

The offending comment has been edited. I will also post this rule reminder for all posters:

Rule No. 1 - No "Flaming"

1) You will not post any messages that harass, insult, belittle, threaten or flame another member or guest. This will include misquoting another member out of context. You may discuss another member's beliefs but there will be no personal attacks on the member himself or herself. This includes implied accusations that another member is not a Christian.

If this continues this thread will be closed.

Thank you,
Blynn

Shawn, you don't seem to get it; calling anyone a moron is just immature and so is bashing their beliefs. I don't agree with Mormon doctrine, but I'm not going to call it moronic, stupid, etc., in a Mormon's company. Why? Because its rude, childish, and doesn't produce the fruits that God expects us to.

I am ashamed that this thread was so derailed by "Christians". Feral was asking a question and you guys just couldn't answer it and be quiet. No wonder there were so few responses. :( And what do you think feral's judgment of responses will be?

How old were you when you made the decision to become a Christian? What factors influenced you? - family, friends, life experience, retreat, church, trauma, etc?
When I was a kid, my family was church going, at least up until I was about 7 years old. Then suddenly, my parents stopped going to church and wouldn't let us go either. I still don't know why, I've asked my dad a few times and he never likes to talk about it but he gets very upset whenever I or anyone else talks about God. Anyway, so I never really had much formal Christian upbringing, but I remained curious about it as I grew up. I read the bible alot, God was a topic often on my mind even though I wasn't saved at the time and I was a pretty bad teenager. On Christmas Eve 1993, age 22, I accepted Christ as my Saviour. No real outside influence just my own curiousity that led me to asking more questions that led me to belief. It hasn't always been easy but I have no regrets.

February 1, 1981. Some Christians I met while in college were kind to me. I became friends with them. They never pressured me...they just lived their lives as salt and light and I decided that I wanted the joy, peace and life they had so I went to a Bible study with some of them and stepped out in faith and repented of my sins, acknowledged Jesus as Lord and believed on Him. While I've had some bumps in the road, He has never strayed and my journey with Him has been rich with joy, peace, love and belonging.
