• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"Each of us is a distinct flower or tree in the spiritual garden of God,--precious, each for his own sake, in the eyes of Him who is even now making us,--each of us watered and shone upon and filled with life, for the sake of his flower, his completed being, which will blossom out of him at last to the glory and pleasure of the Great Gardener." -George MacDonald-

The essence of prayer does not consist in asking God for something but in opening our hearts to God, in speaking with Him, and living with Him in perpetual communion. Prayer is continual abandonment to God. Prayer does not mean asking God for all kinds of things we want; it is rather the desire for God Himself, the only Giver of Life. Prayer is not asking, but union with God. Prayer is not a painful effort to gain from God help in the varying needs of our lives. Prayer is the desire to possess God Himself, the Source of all life. The true spirit of prayer does not consist in asking for blessings, but in receiving Him who is the giver of all blessings, and in living a life of fellowship with Him. -Sadhu Sundar Singh-

To accept the will of God never leads to the miserable feeling that it is useless to strive anymore.

God does not ask for the dull, weak, sleepy acquiescence of indolence.
He asks for something vivid and strong.

He asks us to cooperate with Him, actively, willing what He wills, our only aim:

[pong] HIS GLORY ! HIS GLORY ! HIS GLORY ! [/pong]

Part of receiving Christ's grace of revelation is an experience of judgement, for in the light of the truth we see the falseness of what we have become... -Eriugena-

"And so the great feast [at the end of time] will be ordered and celebrated, from which the substance of no man shall be rejected, for the substance was made by God; and to which the wickedness of no man shall be admitted, for the wickedness was not made by God. For our nature shall be purified, the vice shall be winnowed away, the grain, which is our substance, shall be stored, the stubble, which is sin, shall burn in the flame of the Divine Judgement, the places hid in darkness shall be illuminated, and God shall be seen as all in all."

Orthodox Christianity is clearly the tradition that was given us who are flesh and blood of the West—and it can be clearly seen in the Western Europe of the first ten centuries.… But it also happens that Orthodox Christianity is not merely a ‘tradition’ like any other, ‘a handing down’ of spiritual wisdom from the past; it is God’s Truth here and now—it gives us immediate contact with God such as no other tradition can do.

Quote:
'I have loved thee with an everlasting love.' You can never translate that word "everlasting" into English. It simply means that you have got into the spaceless, boundless realm, you have fallen out of time to where time is no more. You have gone out into that mysterious something where nothing can be taken hold of as tangible, it is all beyond you, beyond your grasp, beyond your calculation, beyond your power to cope with it and bring it into some kind of dimensions. That is the word: beyond you, beyond your time, beyond your world, beyond all your ways of thinking and working. 'I have loved thee with an everlasting, timeless, spaceless love.' Did you notice the alternative marginal reading to the phrase? 'Jehovah appeared of old unto me'? It is, 'from afar appeared unto me' - outside of our world altogether. He says, 'I have loved you with a love altogether outside your dimensions of time and space.' -T. Austin Sparks-

It is all of God or it is no good news at all. If man is free to resist, God is not free to act, for He is bound by man's freedom. If God is to be free to act, man must be bound by the will of God. There can be nothing harmful in such a bondage, since perfect freedom by definition is perfect obedience to perfect law, and "the law of the Lord is perfect" (Psalm 19:7). - Arthur Custance-

No Christian prays for endless sin and punishment. If God permits it, it must be good and right. Why not pray for it? All Christians pray for the salvation of sinners, and yet profess to believe it will never be accomplished in countless numbers. The first essential prayer is that it be in faith. The believer in the ultimate triumph of the Lord Jesus Christ over all sin and death believes in the successful outcome!

Hi there Barb. That which we consider most precious, are all produced in extreme pressure, intense fire, and wounding. Gold, precious stones, and pure pearl find their source in that environment.

"I believe there is a great Creator, infinite in his attributes of wisdom, power, and mercy: that His name is Love. I believe He is a God of all justice, and that He will chasten every person whom He ever created sufficiently to reform him, in this world, or some other." -P.T. Barnum-
