I also have a verse for you that Jesus gave us on what to do with mockers & those who BASH us & our faith in Christ:

Matthew 7:6
“Do not give what is holy to the dogs;
nor cast your pearls before swine,
lest they trample them under their feet,
and turn and tear you in pieces.

Biblically, we're to STOP all witnessing when they turn to mockery and insult and refuse listening (it shows a hard heart that needs work from God before they'll listen) - instead, people want to continue and coddle them in their attacks.
This is why it isn't working.

Jesus told the apostles, if a city rejects your word, LEAVE IT AND TAKE YOUR PEACE WITH YOU. Shake the dust from that city.

Nadiine, that scripture has been used again and again on these forums to insult and express contempt for unbelievers. It is my opinion it may be the one bit of scripture that Christians should refrain from quoting, as it always leads to conflict, hurt feelings and mockery.

The enemy has no power over us. We abide in Christ, and He in us. I strongly object to the mischaracterization of "atheists" and the appalling sweeping generalizations. None of us are any better. We're here by grace, not because of something we've done.

But, primarily, atheists are still His belovéd. He died for them just as He died for us. We have no right to bash them.

Agree.
Which brings to mind one of my favorite verses.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3:
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. _And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. _If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Actually, many a mocker has been turned around through the grace of God and well-placed words.
And many has not as witnessed on this site as well.

There is a point when the Body must protect itself and remember to be in the world but not of it, which includes allowing mockers to be involved on an intimate level in order to convert.

I'm gonna have to disagree with your use of the scripture for witnessing. It has more to do with dealing with other believers than with unbelievers. My experience is that being able to withstand mockery or blasphemy that will curl a person's hair without flinching wins one tremendous respect in a debate.

After all, they aren't insulting me, but God. I'll let Him settle things with them when the time comes. It's my job to witness to them and plant the seeds.

Here are my concerns. I am putting them here so I have them for reference and so they are known.

*Return the site to a more inreach focus as contrasted with outreach. This will not affect access for non-Christians.

I've never been big on this idea, and I'm not now. This raises giant red flags. I can envision endless theological bickering.

Create a new policy for staff. Staff serve at my pleasure, they will no longer be elected or subject to member recall.

If you have numerous complaints about a staffer, will they be handled?

Instate a reconciliation team to handle appeals, mediate member-member conflict, staff-member conflict, oversee staff, and make recommendations to my designee as concerns staff discipline, and or staff removal.

Could you have told us this before so we could apply? Oh well, guess I'm stuck. Smacks of "new board, same as the old board."

Issues with staff decisions should be taken to the staff member, then the reconciliation team, period. Don't post them, don't PM them to others, don't take them to Lee.

So in other words, air our dirty laundry on other boards or via IM?

Can't change human nature. It'll just get driven a little more underground.

I suppose it's mostly ok, but I'm still not happy with some of the earlier answers about things.

So, are Catholics Christian, even if the whole "getting saved" meme doesn't factor into play?

Just one of many differences held by (actual) Christians. So who decides? :)

If it is unbelievable, I would suggest not believing it.

Ouch! That recursion thing can really sting when it bites you on the backside. ;)

I was told - directly from one of the "invited" - that this was done.

You can believe it or not. But considering their behavior here, and the free-fall of this forum, I'm inclined to believe it.

There is more cruelty and mocking between Christians than there has ever been between Christians and non-Christians.
The Christian section makes General Apologetics look like Mister Roger's Neighborhood.

Yes.

I envision a return to the bad, old days.

Some of the changes were likely necessary and the wiki thing was ridiculously complicated, but this wind is blowing back in the direction of a Christian Only Country Club which never worked well.

Locking the doors from the inside only ever produced constant bickering and infighting about the True Gospel, the One True Church, and who was really a Christian just to name a few.

I'm not getting good vibes from this foul wind...

Y'know, I've been around this forum for a while. When I started, there wasn't even anybody to flame. If you wanted a flame war, you had to douse yourself in gasoline and set yourself on fire. Pearls before swine? Phooey! We had to make our own pearls and throw them at ourselves.

. . .er, anyway . . .

Any "invitation" was probably the creation of General Apologetics, and that occurred something like four years ago. I don't think one can consider that "invitation" as the cause of the present difficulties without engaging in an informal fallacy.

Guess you and I see this website differently..I see it as a save haven to encourage that weak and struggling to a deeper walk in Christ..I see this as a safe haven for seekers also to inquire about our faith . You see it as a place to street witness...Iv'e witnessed in the streets and my co-workers..I know how nasty it gets.. But it saddens me to see a forum overrun and believers who this forum is for are run out..shalom..kim

CF has always been open to non-Christians as the Outreach (questions by non-Christians) and the previously open forums such as GA and E/C would tell you.

If allowing non-Christians to register and post like everyone else is something you don't want in a discussion forum then I would have to ask why you ever bothered to register here in the first place since CF has always been open to more groups than just Christians..
