dave... I see you are still hanging in their.. so sorry this is hard for you..
seems like everyone is struggling on here... OH MY... gonna plant a rose bush tomorrow. :) ate out with a friend yesterday...ended up with a mouse issue in the house all of a sudden. I think I got them... I used at least 8 sticky traps and whole lot of poison.... and the house smells like a mint/eucalyptus factory... (the internet says they can't stand the smell.)... I saw three in two days and I've caught three... haven't seen any since.. I hope I got them.

I was just thinking that I'm glad that I'm not a mouse at your house. It sounds like a dangerous place for mice. :D

I was just sitting on the couch late at night watching tv and one walks out into my living room... when he/she saw me she just looked up and WALKED back where he/she came from. I was not previously aware that I had mice. then the very next night two young mice were running from closet to closet in my bedroom while I was on my computer... I caught the three I saw in a couple days and have not seen anymore. I was extremely upset about it as I did not know I had mice.-- I have two kinds of poison and the sticky traps at each doorway and in a couple closets...
the internet research I did says they hate peppermint oil.. It recommended putting peppermint on a cotton ball and laying the cotton ball around. I just bought a bulk quanity of peppermint and eucalyptus oil.. I put it everywhere. the first two days my house was a bit overwhelming (peppermint smell) but now it is subsiding... I just wanted them gone. Feel a little bad about killing three mice but it is way better than killing 20 later on.

ps... they hate the eucalyptus oil too.

They say; that if you see 'one' there are 30 more within ten feet
You have seen ~an adult and two young ones

Do you know [I wonder] just how many they raise in a litter ??
Don't give-up on the treatments
There is at least one adult and the remainder of their brood around [?]

Hope you are rested Shirley

BTW...did YOU get to see the eclipse?
It happened at sunset here so we missed it, but the news said the west coast got to see it.

Blessings

I did not see it...hmmm...forgot all about watching for it, if we had one, it was not very noticable. LOL

Those who have lost loved ones will be in my prayers. May God give you peace and comfort like only He can give.

I spoke by phone with a close friend last evening...it really helped to get to talk...as women can talk...

Those natural repellants are way better for you than pesticides...we killed mice out in the hay barn off and on thru the years...they always look so cute to me...but they really do carry diseases I think.

I have put bait out to trap and kill some skunks...I hate killing those creatures too, but they are big on carrying rabies and the animal control people do not relocate them. So far I have not trapped one this season.

i need a walk... it's hard to think about 30 mice in my house. :( .. my cat died last year.. I didn't replace her because I have a close friend who is alergic.. it didn't take the mice long to figure out she was gone. I guess her scent is gone now .. I let a stray live under my trailer but he doesn't appear to be helping much. lol

We must use bait so the mice take it back to the nest; it is so rural here, repellants are of no use.

Fabric softener sheets also help keep critters away from the house (porcupine/skunk/raccoon); it must be because they associate it with people.
So we tuck sheets in the corners of the house, near the shed, and on a few trees.

Our big problem is ants....they disappeared last year when we landscaped, and now they are back with a vengeance.
We used to have someone spray the house inside and out, but I hate the idea about that stuff building up, especially with our asthma.
So we are trying to just do spot sprays on the foundation and sprinkling granules.

Today we got a couple of nice walks in....the mosquitoes are out now (very humid here today).
Not happy to see them with all their diseases in this area; at least they are only out dusk/dawn and you can see/ hear them coming :p.

Be blessed

LOL...I do that walk with my dog, then I am ruined for doing much of anything else...:angel:

I have got to do some cleaning this week...so I may cut a few walks out...poor Gracie.

Maybe giving more time for your mice treatments will do the trick.

Do you wanna get rid of Ants ??

All you need
is to put down some cornflour
across their trails

They eat it and return with it to the nest

It is indigestible
and will rapidly kill-off the entire nest
solving their nuisance for at least a season

The above actually works, very-effectively
you CAN take that to the bank
You might have-to replenish the piles from time to time
but, one pack, is more than enough to deal with several nests

I have heard that but never tried it.
They are decent sized black ants...not the tiny kitchen variety.
They go up the siding and enter through the eaves of the house, then come in through the attic/bathroom vents.
Somehow they also go up the foundation and under the siding, then into the rooms.
Perhaps putting it down along the foundation would help stop them from coming in?
Most likely that would work in dry weather best.
What a pain they are :p
Thanks Dave :)

When they go looking for food

and they are able to find it before they get to your house
they won't waste their time at your house

Yup, I guess they give you guys 'a break' in wet weather huh ?

True; I'll have to dig it out and put some down!
Yup they do...no sign of them when it rains.
Thanks :)

Is corn flour the same as corn starch?...or corn meal??

*ETA: your definitions are different that ours LOL
