I began the first of my Digital Photography Classes today
where this two hour session, was used to guage the general status
and depth of experience [present level of competence]
of each of it's participants

So, it began with 'form-filling'
and an 'image composition' by each participant, of a flowerhead
and an explanation of basic 'lighting' and compensatory [in camera] settings
a description and explanation of 'image-formats' [lossy and lossless]
and also storage formats [SD & XD] and external storage [pen drives]

Next week ... will take in, hands-on camera usage and subject composition
use of the tripod for longer exposure 'snaps'
iow: an altogether more 'practical' session
More news on this course for the local 'Over-50's', as time goes-on

Your class sounds interesting Dave...you should get a lot out of it.

It is a holiday weekend here in America...I have lots of memories of past years with a family & camping & boating...now I am just enjoying the hummers in the yard and being able to see & walk.

It may be very stressful for many who have recently lost their men or women in combat areas...hope many are finding peace in Christ our Lord.

dave are you using computers to download and edit photos at all yet?

Yes Jan... I have been doing it for years

The Resource Centre has supplied laptops
for the participants of the class
which will be run in ten week 'blocks'
of two hours each
there are also four blocks confirmed for this year

I will be runnng the course program here
inside Dave's Computer Class thread

The image editing program that I will use on the class
is 'Picasa'....this, is downloadable for free from the internet
a SAFE Mirror-Site LINK will be provided in the abovementioned thread
for those that wish to join the class inside GE

Participants MUST HAVE
a digital camera with either SD or XD memory card
their own PC [or access to a PC]
Picasa image editing software [installed]

At this time...
I am 'dealing' from within my experience-level
and if members are not using a Windows Operating System
I will not be able to convert instructions for them
although they may find Picasa [or, a version]
also works for them
In which case.. the class may be helpful to them too

Some software will not run in VISTA
and I am told that this is the case with Picasa

So what program do you use mostly? I have been using Photoshop at school and i love it but it is very expensive.

For my own pics.... stored on the desktop
I use photobucket to host a copy
and bring the urls here

I will need to to adjust pic size to show comfortably in the window
without stretching the window here using windows PAINT
Presently... my camera is producing a file size that requires to be
stretched to 42% of the original BEFORE upload to photobucket
which provides for a small gap of several pixels at each side of the pic
in the GE window... my monitor screen resolution is 1280 x 1024 pixels


I use the url [properties page]for pics I find on the internet
and paste those links directly into message boxes here
between the 'image switches' 'on'
and 'off'

or,
with images that I find in emails
I right-click on them and choose 'save picture as'
to my desktop and uploaded them to photobucket account
then bring their 'image-urls' here to my messages
having FIRST posted a copy of the email's text


If someone else has posted an image in GE
I can simply right-click the image and choose COPY
come to my message box
right click in the space and choose PASTE

Just a quickie [here] from Mary's PC

It would seem that I have either
a dodgy graphics card
or, someone has gotten past my fences

I have been at my PC all day since it's display went down
trying to rollback and re-install drivers for the graphics card
I GOT-OUT a few times but [no go!] I got a flashing display again
So, tomorrow I will uninstall it... reload it
and install new drivers from Dell ... otherwise...
I'll have to save-up and buy another (

anyway... I will still get here... now and again
although not quite so-often as has been my 'way'

Good Morning Gail...
It would appear that I have been able to stabilise my display [somewhat]
however it is in low res and I have-to use the scroll bar to read
the far right of the screen

Ah well, from where we are and with what we have eh ?

If, worse comes to worst... I do have a X64 upstairs
[albeit, that too, needing of a boot CD (to cost £26 )...]
and Mary would give me 'time' on her's I'm sure

I cannot say, that I like the font much at this res'

Anyway... I am here by His grace
and will use all blessings to remain-so
