In some faith/congregational forums, the members look at the faith icon of a newcomer and assume the worst before the newcomer has a chance to really post anything meaningful, or judge the person for what they sense is sarcasm when it is not.

I was not talking about GA. I had quite forgotten about those forums as they have been out of sight, out of mind for a long time now. However, viewing what goes on in the faith or congregational areas is enough to cause some people to question Christianity. And what really caught my attention is the number of former CF mods who have lost their faith. They are the ones in the crossfire of the congregational debates and get all the venom.

ok, sorry if I was dragging your point off into the weeds. The closing and hiding of GA is still a sore spot for me and many others. I don't spend much time in Congregational areas so I won't pretend to know how to fix whatever issues there may be there.

I think the issue here is that some are so concerned about a gust of wind blowing out their candle that they have decided all candles must be sheltered by bushels.

Closing GA solved nothing. We now see the debate merely shifted to other forums and marginally different topics. sure, we can chase our tails until atheists can only talk about the weather, but even then there will be challenges to the possibility of a world wide flood. censorship of ideas, whether in closings like GA or individual removal of "dangerous ideas" leads to nothing but a rousing game of whack-a-mole

You're dead on [serious]. If you take a look at all the Society forums as they are now, GA topics have been creeping not the Ethics & Morality forum where the majority are ended up being closed because of being off-topic.

What has generally been your experience with this?

Ehh... At the risk of sounding like a dope... Could you explain a bit? I don't really get what you're asking.

About the "safe havens" -- We don't have to pick just one, do we? My belief system fits Conservative, Fundamentalist, Moderate, Spirit-Filled, Charismatic, probably Pentecostal, and maybe a few others.
You are free to post in any forum you identify with...Posts will be moderated based on the site wide rules ...A good example would be a person who identifies themselves as Baptist, and then goes into the Baptist forum to bash Baptists all the time... That persons identity will not be scrutinized, but his posts certainly will.

Hope that explains it clear enough:)
Also -- and I think this may have been touched on a bit, but I'm not sure -- will anything be done in the way of "standardizing" debate rules among the various "safe havens"? E.g., in the Conservative area, debate *among Conservatives* is allowed anywhere, but NON-Conservatives can debate only in the Debate subforum; however, in Spirit-Filled, *no one* may debate in the "main" forum, but only in the subforums, and then only according to the specific FSGs of the subforums. :swoon:
The best way to answer is to say, pray for us:prayer: ...And I'll let Tonks come with a more precise answer to this question. (remember as Tonks said this will take a few days/weeks to square away, but the ball is rolling) I am sincere when I say pray for us about this delicate area of CF.

In some faith/congregational forums, the members look at the faith icon of a newcomer and assume the worst before the newcomer has a chance to really post anything meaningful, or judge the person for what they sense is sarcasm when it is not.
Exactly and that does not fit with our Site Owner's Vision at all, something we all want to fix and heal :groupray:
And what really caught my attention is the number of former CF mods who have lost their faith. They are the ones in the crossfire of the congregational debates and get all the venom.
:(Another unfortunate and painful situation... I can only encourage every one to pray as staff are people too and go thru times of questioning their own hearts and actions and life and the world around them...Moderators are not robot Christian clones (no one is), and need to be prayed for during these personal times and seasons....We value all our staff and have done every thing to provide this site with exceptional staff who all affirm Pauler's Vision for CF and our members. I pray any more venom out there turns into beautiful supplication and intercession before the throne of grace:groupray:

What's up with that "vision" anyhow? The Pauler does a drive-by post on 6-19 and the unwashed masses don't hear from him again:confused: Is he telling you guys what to do or are y'all [admin] puttin' this together? And is he going to be part of the community or just a shadowy figure in the background?

Can't remember if I asked this before or not, but I know a little while back the GA board was archived and still available for viewing then it was taken off.
Is there any chance at all it was saved and could possibly be put back up on CF?

I have so many fond memories and posts on that board and I was upset when it was completely taken off CF.
Does anyone else miss that Archived Board besides me? Thanks, God bless and have a blessed and safe 4th of July

I think its a good idea to take a break when you need one and are struggling in here, can I suggest though that these specific issues be taken up in the suggestions and complaints box as this thread could easily go down a rabbit trail if everyone starts to bring up personal issues for examples.....We dont want to ignore your concerns but there is a time and place and here it is not, not for specific issues, lets keep this general ok.

If I were to take your post in a general way(which wont do it justice hence why I asked you to take it to the S/C box) I would say the changes coming should improve any problems in the denominational forums associated with the FSGs we have now.

I presume you are addressing my post.

The header of the thread was 'changes in the appeals process' which I addressed in the prior post as having NONE prior and in hope for an actual, intelligent and legitimate appeals process.

Very happy you chose to interject your false notion of 'personal issues' as another fine example. My examples were specific and if you or any other moderator could address the legitimate problem of AUTOMATIC PERSONAL FLAMING via DENOMINATIONAL ASSOCIATION please do so.

Continuing to the present time there appears that NONE of the mods seem to be able to 'get it,' get it?

I'm not sure I understand fully what you mean..are we talking HaShem, G-d and the like or something else? You'll probably have to provide some examples.

Well I've been booked before for using a cultural term! When I use the term 'ass' which, in England, is a donkey, I get accused of saying the American perversion of the word that means someone's posterior (if that still means what it ought to!).

It is the first time I have ever come across language discrimination!

That's actually a special case covered in another announcement. Aside from those four words using English terms and spellings from wherever you are at is absolutely fine. We don't care if you spell it colour or color, or if you call it a lift or an elevator.

http://www.christianforums.com/t6505756/

Usage of the following, in other than Biblical context:

damn
hell
bastard
ass

will result in staff edits and infractions.

The improper usage of God, Jesus, or Christ is already covered in an existing rule, but such usage will result in a staff edit, and an infraction.

************************************************************************

If should be noted that staff still have some level of discretion, and infractions may not be automatic, especially in the case of new members, or possibly for the first violation.

The above is not considered a rule change, but more so a clarification of the existing rules, specifically in the case of words which are not censored, and how violations will be handled.

Is there going to be a posting on the changes in the forums?

The Linguistics and Educators subforums under Society are now gone or moved somewhere. Is it possible to have them in an archived area - with view only privileges?

If the goal is to reduce the size of this entire forum so that it is not so sluggish, then I understand that you must prune old or dying subforums just like you prune trees, then we can bear better fruit hopefully.
