  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I met the owner/designer of itti bitti today!!!
t was SO hot today that I took maddie's suit off after we had gone to lunch with Daddy. So little Miss was just in her nappy and singlet and bib. She had on her bright yellow itti bitti nappy... We were waiting in line at woolies and the lady in front of us kept staring at Maddie. She finally apologised for staring, saying she was the owner of itti bitti!!! Hehe...
She was really nice. She was stoked to see someone she didn't know wearing an itti... Was kinda cool... I know, i'm a dag!!!

They have their new colours out... I want them!

2x Baby Beehinds One Size Bamboo Fitteds in Twilight Purple
2x PUL Wraps Medium, Frog Green and Orchid Purple
3x Baby Beehind Minky Magicalls AIO Medium, Licorice, Sunshine Yellow and Orchid Purple

The fitteds are what we use as night nappies. So now Maddie can be in fulltime cloth with no disposables! YAY!

Cool!

I found a company here in Germany (Lotties) that sells all kinds of organic/green items... including cloth diapers! I was shocked to see something here that was not a brand discussed on Diaperswappers or here. LOL -- they are prefolds or AI2s with the wollies or "rubber" pant covers.. They even had package deals to grow with baby. :)

They'd not work for us considering how Jonathan wets.. but they were stinkin' awesome to look at. They've some pretty neat products including amber necklaces, so I will likely be ordering from them soon.

Our friends that are having their baby soon had come over on Saturday night so we had given them the catalogue to look through...

For those of you with super soakers what inserts do you use? J sleeps 12 hrs at night (with a couple co-sleeping feeds thrown in) but lately has been wetting through his diaper. I've tried a Cotton Babies OS microfiber insert with a Wonder-Fulls help insert combo and a 2 CB OS MF insert combo but he's soaked through both. I don't want to have to change him during the night if I don't have to because he doesn't like diaper changes and I don't want to get him worked up and be up all night. So for those of you who have super soakers what works for you?

I'm still using the BG3.0, on the smallest rise and tight setting (he's just really thin in that area) and it's got the newborn insert and regular soaker in. I check him about every 3 hours, unless I suspect he's wet alot. I have gotten now where I can tell by the look of the front if he's wet. It's not "super soaked" with one wet, so he doesn't cry then, but if he wets again, it is and that's when he typically will cry... so I try now to catch it before we get to that, unless he's sleeping and I can't tell without waking him.

We use the WAHMIES OS doublers. They work GREAT!!! I stuff the pocket like normal, stuff a doubler in there, too (IDK how well this would work with a teeniny little one) and then put a liner between skin and inner area. His dr. told me today I really had him stuffed LOL

I have to, though because he's such a big wetter...day and night. Anyway, the BG OS are great and so are the WAHMIES (insert wise...not a BG fan otherwise. :) )

HELP!!!!

My sister wants to use cloth. I've shown her my stash and she has decided what she would like to try one her baby arrives. But it involves a combination of a few different nappies.

Does this nappy exist???
wacko.gif

Here are her requirements:
* White or ivory in colour.
* Minkee outer.
* OSFM.
* Not over the $30 mark.
* Snap closure.

The only one I have found that comes close is the Rumparooz Nappy. But I can't see anywhere that it is available in white/ivory.

Any ideas from you lovely ladies about where I would be able to get something like this?

Oh, white is no fun! lol

Rarely can you find a minky for less than $30 brand new. :( I paid around $30 for mine, but they were NIP from someone who bought them, KWIM? You may check with some of the WAHMs that advertise on DS to see if maybe they can pull it off.

I am Really liking these gdiapers! I wasn't sure about them at first, but I like them a lot. Because of our plumbing I'm not flushing the flushable part (just throwing them in the trash) but it's nice to know they're going to biodegrade quickly. :)

OK can someone explain to me how prefolds and woolies work? I'm interested in starting the new baby (whenever we have one -- don't get all excited, I am NOT expecting.. LOL :D) on cloth immediately.... Even in the hospital.

I was thinking I could do it, but I dunno if you would change them more or have 'leak thru' on it unlike with the BGs. Thanks

Well I suppose I should join you ladies here.....We are thinking about using cds with our new baby but I'm wondering what would be the most cost effective way to do it since we only have one in diapers. I'm thinking right now of either diapers I make myself or using flats or prefolds with a cover...but how often do cloth diapers leak and do you have to change the baby more often using cloth?

I did the pre-fold with a cover and she was wet a lot. I switched to a one-size fits most, pocket diaper, and she rarely ever leaks. It's usually if she's been sleeping all night and had a bottle right before bed. I'm paranoid about diaper rash (she's only had a small spot once! and she's 3 months) so I change her before and after each feeding, but that's also how often I changed her when we were doing regular diapers when she came home from the hospital.

I am a little bummed! I got some Mommy's Touch diapers on sale with no inserts (that's one of the reasons why it was $8 off). So I bought some BumGenius inserts...and they don't hold nearly as much as the Mother Nurture inserts. They are a smigin less bulky, but I have to use a doubler, so she's pretty stuffed. Stink! The mother nurture inserts really soak up the wee! She sleeps all night with just that and does better than she does with the BG insert and doubler. LAME!

Oh well, at least I'm all set up for the next one. I've the got the diapers, insterts, and doublers now. So I can used the gerber prefolds for burp rags instead of extra protection...talk about a big diaper on a little bum!

We use fitted with covers rather than prefolds. Imse Vimse terry contours are amazing....and then you just throw a woolie (or a fleece) over it. Goodmamas are pretty great, too. I can't bring myself to get into prefolds.

If we are ever fortunate enough to have another one, I'll definitely be starting him/her on cloth in the hospital. I've set my Imse Vimses aside for baby #2 and the goodmamas that I've stocked will fit newborns up to 35 lbs...so we're set for the next one save for covers. I mean, I *like* pockets....but not near as much as the fitted/cover/babyleg combo! LOL

I think I'll be using prefolds and a cover for the next newborn stage.
Re leaking and changing, I think it really depends on what sort of prefold you are using. If you are using a cotton one then you are going to have to change it more often than say a bamboo prefold. If you use a prefold and a good cover with gussets then you have 2 lines of defense against a poosplosion. They are better for newborn pootainment than most pockets and AIO.
You will probably have to change the nappy a little more often, but with Maddie she would poop sometimes twice around feed time. Once just before and once after and sometimes if we were lucky once in the middle. So I would change her after every poop.

Birbitt: The prefolds and covers would probably be the most cost effective way of using cloth nappies. But if you wanted the ease of a pocket or AIO you could always do OSFA nappies. Like BumGenius, Haute or Happyheinys. That way you don't have to spend money each time bub grows out of a sized nappy.

HaddasahSukkot: what exactly do you want to know about prefolds and woolies?
Woolies you need to lanolise every now and then. They are the most breathable covers you can get. Basically the wetness can come out of them helping to keep bub drier, esp overnight. You need 100% wool covers though. Also you don't need to wash the wool everytime it is used (unless it is soiled) just let it air out for a few hours. I hope i explained that ok!
