So I have a question that been puzzling me lately. Haven't been able to find an answer, maybe a catholic will know the answer. I was wondering why the Vatican have symbols of upside down and bent crosses? That's traditionally consider satanism symbols. Does it mean something different in Catholicism?

What others have said about it being the Cross of St. Peter who was crucified upside down but that doesn't get to your "traditionally satanism" question.

Look at the Rainbow. Until a few years ago the symbol of Noahs Flood, Peace, Harmony, Pot of Gold at the end of a rainbow.

Now its the symbol of an entire sexual movement. Fast forward a few centuries and someone will ask "Why is the church using a pagan symbol".

The pagans have a long history of coopting symbols and changing them.

Exactly right. Most Satanic symbols are copies from Christianity done in order to mock the faith, and the Wiccan religion is only a few years old anyway. Naturally, a manufactured religion is going to be borrowing from earlier religions.

But we find this the other way round in almost every case when it comes to the rcc and who takes what from whom... Just like the rcc saying they got the mitre hat from the Byzantines when clearly it came from the babylonians...

"Clearly it came from the Babylonians?" 'Fraid not. I can assure you that it did not, and the Christian symbolism inherent in the mitre is very strong.

If you had some other emblems, etc. in mind, I would of course be willing to listen.

Well what does scripture say about long hair?

It says what it says. But what it doesn't say is your a shameful person but that it is a Shame when a man has hair as a woman....

But if that's so, then why is Our Lord normally depicted with long hair?

That is a good question. I believe a man should have short hair and a women should have long, but this has always stumped me.

We know that Jesus was "from" Nazareth and took a Nazarite vow like Samson did.

One thing I heard is that in those days, short hair was above shoulder length, and long hair was mid-back to butt length.

The bent crucifix, I believe, is symbolic of the "weight of our sin" that Christ carried to the cross on our behalf.

The upside down cross is a symbol of St. Peter, who, according to tradition felt himself unworthy to be crucified the way that Christ was, and at his request was crucified upside-down. Both the upside down cross and the crossed keys are symbols in Christian Iconography that represent St. Peter.

I attend St. Peters Lutheran Church which has Crossed Keys on our Altar above a Crucifix of our Our Lord, and below our Lord's cross on the top of our Altar. In an Icon of St. Peter in our Church he is shown holding his Epistles, and upon these epistles is depicted the following symbol below:

Agreed with Mark. Evolutionists use the fish symbol with feet and Darwin. Pastafarians have a parody of the fish with the Flying Spaghetti Monster (Ramen!). Just because someone misuses a symbol doesnt mean that we have to give it up.

If we did, we would be giving a lot of things up to the point where we would have nothing.

Yes, we would have nothing, we would be mired down in legalism, trying to keep man made laws in a neopharisitical pietistic way; and we would fail at every turn. All we could do to avoid sin would be to sit in silence like a bunch of quakers.

I'll take God's grace over legalism and pietism any day!

We know that Jesus was "from" Nazareth and took a Nazarite vow like Samson did.

No.

A Nazarene was someone from Nazareth.
A Nazarite was one who took a specific vow upon themselves.

We know that Jesus didn't take the Nazarite Vow because part of that Vow is to refrain from "fruit of the vine", and Jesus clearly has no trouble not only turning water into wine at the wedding feat at Cana, but remarks that because He did eat and drink He was accused by the "pious" busybodies of His day that He was a "drunkard and a glutton". You don't get accused of being a drunkard by being a teetotaler.

This is specifically in contrast to St. John the Baptist, who was a Nazarite.
