Infant Baptism really only became a thing with the Radical Reformation since it was condemned by Protestant Reformers (Luther, Calvin, Zwingli). But that is irrelevant since they're not Catholics (well, they considered themselves to be). We consider baptism to be necessary for salvation, because it is a physical sign of our salvation. Though a clueless child may be exempt from the Wrath of God during Judgement, we perform this Sacrament anyway as physical sign that this child will be brought upright and in the path of God. In terms of scripture, the Saints commanding the newly saved to be baptised including their entire households alludes to the fact that households includes minors. *snip*
My daughter's friends were having their infants baptized and she wanted to have our little one know what faith she belonged to since many different religions attend daycare and preschool. It was decided to have her brought up immersed in books, songs and movies that are scripturally sound so she knows herself where her roots are. She's just 2 years old but already she's loving the stories....Noah's Ark and Joseph are her favorites![]()
E rose I have searched the OT for Purgatory and I couldn't find even a hint of it. For it to he true it needs to be more in one scripture from macabbes.
So Myself, Foghorn, and GoingByzantine kind of derailed a post. So I started this one. The goal is for GoingByzantine to back up the following using Scripture. Not talking about something a Pope said, or a Priest, but among the Scriptures.
I appreciate GoingByzantine for taking the challenge
Here is my list:
Nuns
Purgatory
Assumption of Mary
Priests living in Celibacy
Latin Mass in a English RC church (when looking at 1 Cor. 14:19)
*Christmas (since I believe Dec. 25th is a Catholic invention, and it was originally outlawed in the USA)
Sprinking
Infant Baptism
Venial and Mortal Sins
I would love GoingByzantine to start with Nuns myself
*Also I understand that many Christians (both Catholic and Protestant) celebrate Christmas. While I do not, please understand I am not attacking Christmas, but I do not see December 25th being the birth of Christ in the Bible. From my studies the birth would be around Sept/Oct area. But I do believe the date (Dec. 25th) was put into place by the Catholics, and it is also the birthday of many pagan gods of the past. Although we must also note that Christmas was origionally outlawed in America, and that had something to do with the Catholics, since it was not allowed until the middle 1800s. more info can be found here: When Americans banned Christmas - The Week *
Oh yes I did oops, was never good at the snip/bracket thing lol...
I just realized I made a few mistake in my quote, also you're missing a couple of brackets for you quote, lol.
That's great, by having a child baptised, parents are making a covenant with God on raising their child, just as Abraham made a covenant when circumcision was first instituted with Isaac.
You have things backwards. Everything in the Bible is consistent with Church Teaching..
That would depends on one's definition of "Jew"........The RCC is indeed more Jewish in nature than Protestism.....IMHOYou are correct; but you do realize that the entire Bible was written by Jews, and when you honestly look at Christianity it is very Jewish.
"Consistent with?"
Is that supposed to mean "not addressed at all in the Bible but allegedly not in direct conflict with it?"
The question then becomes this: Is it correct to invent doctrines using as the justification for doing so the idea that if it's not in the Bible, "anything goes?"
Oh, haha, I don't follow Calvin and the hundreds of other reformers. I just agree with him on how he understand God's word. So you understand, Calvinism just distinguishes the way I believe, if you feel better you can call it reformed, it's another name for Calvinism. So why did you follow the vain philosophy and empty deceptions of Calvin?
Honestly, it does not matter who or where it came from. It did not come from Jesus or the apostles, so that settles it. It also doe not prove Purgatory, read your history.No. Did you know that the practice of praying for the dead came from our Jewish heritage? Do you know that even today Jews pray for the dead using prayers that are older than the New Testament?
I was right then?
Sure, I'll ask the ghost of Christmas past to give you a tour. Good grief, if you don't believe history, I don't know what to tell you. They do? Then if you know this then you could provide evidence of this assertion.
No it's not and you cannot prove it is. I already tried to help you, the rest is up to you. You can either believe a lie, or face the facts that your Church has been lying to you and get out.No purgatory is a doctrine that comes from Divine Revelation, Sola Fide
Yes, Purgatory is a man made fable.on the other hand is an example of a man-made doctrine, if you want to know what one looks like.
Stop giving it an excuse. It's not a sickness it's an evil, filthy sin!Well pedophilia isn't only a single person problem. If only it was that simple. No it is a sickness that crosses many walks of life.
That's true.![]()
Friend, there is a world of difference between bashing and exposing.Didn't do that no body would have nothing to talk about.
Um.....did you read what he said? You are correct; but you do realize that the entire Bible was written by Jews, and when you honestly look at Christianity it is very Jewish.
Scripture does not teach Purgatory. Again, it's just a fairy tale.E rose I have searched the OT for Purgatory and I couldn't find even a hint of it. For it to he true it needs to be more in one scripture from macabbes.
For instance Isaiah in the last chapter talks about Hell and where the worm dies not and Jesus quoted that when he taught Hell. He never quoted anything to prove purgatory, in fact I think he would be offended by the idea.
