  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was just about to say about the resurrection of the body. I've talked to a couple of priests and a monk about this. They didn't offer anything concrete. The monk, however, told me that he is a pet lover as I am. He trusts God, because God is a caring and loving God. This is been the attitude I try to take. Trusting in God to be kind to all of his wondrous creation.

Matrona, that is a terrible story! Those poor rabbits! God love them and have mercy. That's just disgusting, and they really deserve major jail time. Ugh.

Justin

I tried to save a couple of scrub jays attacked by the cats, but it was too late. They had each received a fatal bite to the abdomen. (I hate that.) Those scrub jays are daring. They kept dive bombing the cat because they had a nest nearby. Finally the cat just slapped them out of the air.

I have read some Lewis, but not alot. However, Heaven is a purely spiritual state and thus to get in you need an immortal soul, and the Church teaches only human beings, the bodiless powers (both light and dark) and God are immortal.

Watch out for stray puns!

I think this is another "We know where the grace of God is; we don't know where it isn't" thing. We only know what has been revealed to us; the rest is Mystery. To dogmatically say that God's creation here on earth will not be found in heaven is taking it a bit too far. I think it's reasonable to say that we don't know, and not quite reasonable to say that we do know. We're not purrfect yet. (Do you have a bone to pick with that?) :p

I did not say dogmatically, however there are people on this thread equating killing animals with killing of humans and they are 2 totally different subjects. As I said the killing of a human is a sin, a grave one at that. The killing of an animal is only a sin when done out of malice. There is NOTHING about the killing of an animal that goes against the natural order of this world, as Aria suggested. I tell you what, when you get animals in nature to stop killing each other, then I might be willing to consider going vegetarian and then I might be willing to consider not killing bees or flies that come into my house. I really get the idea that those who are all for animal rights gravely dislike human beings because we have been set apart by God as being special, in his image and likeness. Maybe they should get to work in creating a species that will kill us and make us just like any other animal, and then they won't feel so guilty about being human.

Maybe im sick. But when my cats do that its kinda cute haha

I agree with you.

I think it is quite marvellous to see my cats catch their prey.

My youngest cat (still a kitten but cat-sized) brought in the lounge his first mouse (at least the first I've seen him catch).

I just got some kitchen paper and moved it out to the back garden whilst trying to show to the cat my 'appreciation'.
He was increadibly confused and kept looking under the furniture wondering where it went. ^_^ .

Ahhhh, fascinating, disturbing? I believe not.
As to my observation, well, that may be a disturbing matter :p

I don't know about everyone else, but I used to watch in amazement as my now deceased cocker spaniel Trisha would stalk prey. She knew how to hunt. My English Toy Spaniels are clueless how to hunt, especially Puppyarch Tikhon. They will chase after a bird or rabbit barking, but only Brittany has ever come close to catching anything and that is because the bird was already wounded to begin with. However, Trisha was different. She knew how to hunt and would quietly stalk prey until she felt the right time to attack. I never let her catch anything, but it was still very interesting to watch.

Myself, I don't kill any insects which make their way into my house.
I was taught that spiders are good, flys can be got rid of.
For this reason, there is at least one spider in each room (to keep the flies away ;) ).
In my univeristy room I had a spider which was the same colour as the walls (so visitors didn't notice it) and I named it Sergius. ^_^ Don't quite know why, but the name suited it.

I quite happily eat meat.
Ideally, it would be nice to see animals executed in an efficient and painless fashion.

Animals do not have human rights for the reason that they are not human....if they had, I think we should tax them :p .

From a young age I always thought that animals are here for 3 reasons.

i. to provide for us (whether it be food or labour)
ii. to clothe us, (leather, furs or for other uses of their hides...I do not agree with the needless fashionable wearing of such furs as mink.)
iii. to give us pleasure through their existance.

Nothing gets me going more than environmentalists who have no clue what they are talking about. My teenage cousin a few weeks ago ripped my head off because I cut down 2 trees in my yard. (I am replacing both, and maybe adding a 3rd). She told me I was killing the earth! Her sister suggested I tell her that I do indeed recycle the wood from the trees I cut down because I have the vast majority of it drying in very large rubbermaid containers in my basement and have been making pens from it on my lathe and will soon make a bowl or two from it. Yes, I am killing the earth by cutting down a tree. Isn't that a kick to see just how powerful I am? Maybe I can destroy the entire planet by cutting down all of the trees. Maybe Noah is 1/2 responsible for the flood because of all the wood it took for him to build the ark? If I am killing the earth Christ did so as well because his father was a carpenter. Imagine that, the Son of God was guilty of the sin of destroying the earth in the view of the environmentalists?!?! Somehow I think their thinking is a just a tad misguided.

Wood is probably the best material to build stuff out of.
It is self-renewing. It disintigrates quickly when exposed to the outdoors and is attractive.

Plastics on the otherhand take many hundreds if not thousands of years to disintigrate.

I don't know if it's tradition in the U.S.A. but in Britain it is common to have yew trees in church yards.
The reason is, it was compulsary to have at archery practice on Sunday and yew is an excellent wood for the manufacture of bows.

Anyway, looking out my window I can see nothing but trees, and it is a huge variety of willows, birches, oaks, sycamores, firs, pines and maples.
On the drive home from University I pass a few deforestation projects but new deciduous trees (mainly oak) are planted in place. There is a hill near where I live called "beacon fell" which was once bare but has been reforested with Canadian pine...a tree obviously not native to England and steals all competition from undergrowth as well as poisoning the ground for any potential plants.
Standing beneath the canopy you find yourself standing on bare ground.

Reforestation is not necessarily a good thing unless the correct, often slow growing trees are planted.
It should really be Oak and Birch, not just monochrome pine arranged in uniform rows.

If everyone would plant a few more trees in their yards, or anywhere, it would cut down on this "global warming" because we are losing our rain forests so rapidly. They predicted that would cause global warming. It must be a factor then.

Well, Jesus said we would be in Paradise. I cannot imagine a Paradise without trees, plants, and animals. Without such, it would be desert. :)

Global warming is also occurring due to the sun. The sun has been having a lot of activity. Some scientists also are predicting that we are traveling in a very active part of the universe where we are being bombarded by cosmic rays.

Check google for an interesting documentary done by the BBC to counter Gore's sensationalism.

Yes, planting more trees may help, but the trees are dying. We cannot afford to lose the rain forest.

If someone wants to abstain from meat, let them abstain and do not judge them. If someone wants to eat meat, let them eat, and do not judge them. This is the message of scripture. In acts, was Peter not told "Peter, kill and eat?" We don't like to think about killing animals, but most of us will happily dig into a steak. It's just a fact of life that we in our current society have become so disassociated with nature, that natural things, like killing our prey, have become horrifying to us. I would never hurt an animal intentionally that was not threatening me or that I didn't intend to eat to sustain my own life, but really....this is the natural way of things. It's what keeps the world going. Predators kill their prey.

Hi, Mike.

I agree with you. It' s just unbelievable how some people can twist the words of others. I serve my cat chicken almost every day! Now how strange is that? When the cat cries for chicken, should I give him a stone? I prepare it fresh for him because most canned cat food smells awful.

Anyway, I think that in today's world we have very little regard for life, even the life of an animal. And if aborting kittens causes the female cat to later develop cancer, I am against it. We have too much pain and suffering in this world.

Furthermore, I've been told that a lot of adopted kittens end up in the stomach of a pet snake or pet piranhas because the free pet ads in newspapers are just too tempting for people who want to save a buck or two. Personally, if I only had two choices, I'd rather give a kitten to a snake owner than to a vet to kill by abortion.

However, the ideal situation is adoption. When our female cat had kittens, there was a pet store locally who sold them for us. We didn't earn a cent, but I was grateful they got good homes.

As someone who has had to put down 2 beloved pets for medical reasons, I think that if there is a serious medical condition, aborting the kittens can be more humane. If it was my cat, I would want to have a serious talk with the vet before giving the OK. It is our job to take care of God's creatures. Sometimes that means doing the humane thing of ending life if the animal would know nothing but pain and suffering.
