I've never seen a demonised man (other than 'priests' performing strange rituals) but my wife has when she was little. It really freaked her out. The man started to writhing on the floor like a snake. She wondered how a human body could twist and move like that!
My Pastor did relate his experiences in casting out demons with his assoc Pastor when he was much newer in the ministry. He said sometimes a male voice wld come out of a woman. and that sometimes, when the demon came out, the whole room just filled up with a strong stench. He also said they cldnt stand the mention of Jesus' blood and wld scream everytime he mentioned the Blood of Jesus.
BTW, if I do encounter a demonised person what shld I do? Walk away if there's no unction to cast it out? Ask the man for permission? Call my care grp leader? what wld you do?
Andrew,
Well, uh, I'd pray
You most likely come across demonized people every day, the demons just do not manifest. Or they manifest in ways that some do not percieve as demonic.
The first time that I can remember coming in contact with a demonized person was on a public bus. A homeless women would get on and normally just acted weird. But one day, a very different masculine voice came out of her mouth. I don't remember what it said, but I sat there in fear. Silently praying in tongues and hoping she would not come near me.
The first thing to remember is "do not fear". As a born again believer, you have the authority. Most of the time, unless it manifests in a way that you have to take care of it, I would not do anything but pray. I would never suggest attempting to cast it out alone, especially, if you've never done it before. You can rebuke it though.
In the book "I just Saw Jesus" by Paul Eschelman of Campus Crusade for Christ tells of one of their video teams who had gone into a foreign country (I don't remember which one) to show the Jesus film.
The team was put up for the night in the local Buddist Temple. The villigers understood this temple to be "haunted" and no one had ever emerged alive after spending the night there. The Campus Crusade team did not know this.
Most of them believed that this kind of stuff did not happen anymore. But when the noises woke them in the night and demons manifested in physical form they soon changed their opinion.
One of the team said, "well, lets do what we see Jesus do in the film.". They prayed, rebuking the spirits and commanding them to leave. Then they went to sleep and slept undisturbed for the rest of the night. When the villigers saw them coming out in the morning they were amazed and wanted to know about this Jesus who had protected the Jesus Film team.
Jesse Duplintis tells a funny story about when the Lord told him to cast out a demon while he was travelling on an airplaine. I believe it's on his video/tape "Laughter Doeth Good Like A Medicine".
I don't remember what is was the woman was doing but Jesse knew it was a demon. When the Lord told him to cast it out Jesse said, "but Lord, there's too many people around. People will be scared if I start yelling at it". God said, "you don't have to speak directly to it" So Jesse sat down in his seat, a few rows in front of the woman and began, under his breath to rebuke it. It's really funny the way he tells it and the demon fled.
In church we don't usually address them unless the person begins to manifest. At that point, depending upon the manifestation we will usually move them to another room so the congregation does not see it. Some demons hold on tighter than others and can make quite a scene when being forced to vacate their host.
Anyway Andrew, I'm not an expert on this subject. I can share only what I myself have read or experienced.
I've found that just the presence of a born again, spirit filled, and walking in their authority believer will stirr the demons while just walking down the street. Not all manifest in big ways.
One time I was talking with a few people outside my apartment. A couple friends of theirs joined us. As we talked, I noticed that one of the men kept looking at me in a fearful way. He began to fidgit and could not stand still. All the while glancing back and forth at me as we talked. After several minutes of this, out of my mouth came the words, "am I making you nervous?". I'm not usually that bold. He stiffend up and blurted out "Yes!" And then walked away.
Personally, I believe that was a demon and my presence made it nervous. I've experienced that a few times but never had I addressed before.
Just this last Sunday, we had several people come forward to accept Jesus. One of the pastors called me up to take one of the women aside and pray for her and get information for followup. As I was talking with her, she could not sit still. She was rocking back and forth, side to side and would not look me in the eyes.
I knew it was demonic and just kept talking to her. At one point she stopped, looked at me and said, "why are you looking at me like that?" Then one of the pastors came up (Nelson) and I told him her name and shared a little about what she had told me. He recognized what was happening too and I was grateful that he had come over. He's the experienced one.
He asked her if she wanted to be free from the things that were tormenting her. She said yes, but yet would not pray with us. So, we had to let her go. As one of the other pastors said, "she just was not ready yet to give it up".
Every born again child of God has the authority. The demons will lie to you and tell you, you don't but their liars and God is not. Mark 16:17 says, "And these attesting signs
will accompany those
who believe: in My name they will drive out demons; (amplified).
It's pretty clear that Jesus' name carries a lot of weight when spoken by those who are believers.
Hope this helps someone. If one wants to know more, just start attending a church that does it and you'll learn . . .
