US Cardinal Blase Cupich has announced a ban on all guns on church properties. His decision comes as the city of Chicago continues to battle chronic violence and is part of an effort, announced in April, to address the root causes of violence in the city .

That sounds nice, but I doubt most firearm related crimes are by legal owners and permit holders.
People who would illegally possess and/or carry a firearm and shoot someone probably wouldn't obey the ban or attend the churches.

I've been wondering about that. Every time I read an article in the newspaper, as a former legal gun owner, my first question is "where did they get the gun?". More often than not, this information is not in the news article.

I still wonder. How much gun violence is from legal gun owners? Was Dylann Roof a legal gun owner?
