Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.
It is not "denominational specific" and would discuss theology that are both shared and are different in the orthodox / catholic Churches. Provided that specific Church congregation claims to be "c"atholic and or "o"rthodox.
Examples would include:
The EO Churches
The Church of Rome
The Anglican Church
The Lutheran Church
The Episcopal Church
etc etc...
IOW's this is a place where the "individual thinking is not the norm", but rather "what the 'Churches' teach" being the norm.
"o"rthodox and "c"atholic Christians do not ascribe to indivual based theology.
It would be the same as prefacing every answering post with... "The Churches teach..."
Forgive me...
Thanks for clarifying. I want to ask you about yet another existing forum and how it differs with what you are requesting. The following forum is under faith groups.
Apostolic Churches A forum for members that attend a church with a claim to apostolic succession.
If you want a completely open debate forum for all Christian members of CF to debate the theology of the Apostolic Churches, then a new forum under Theology could work. However, the Apostolic Churches forum does what you describe already in the first post (i.e. people ask questions, not debate them), and allows debate between members of the Apostolic Churches in that forum.
If we start this debate subforum in Theology then we really should start a Protestant debate subforum in Theology as well.
It would belong under theololgy.
Labeled...
"c"atholic / "o"rthodox Theology
The description should include that it is "an area to discuss the theology as viewed by Churches who view themselves as "c"atholic / "o"rthodox".
The understanding would be that this is a place for questions and answers where you can expect a reasonably knowledgable answer as given by the Churches themselves.
It is not a place for arguing against their theology. Same as a memeber of un-orthodox theology would expect that catholics would not come into their area of theology to argue.
Perhaps I am still not being clear?
Forgive me...
so this would be more like a communal theology discussion/teaching room shared by those of :
The EO Churches
The Church of Rome
The Anglican Church
The Lutheran Church
The Episcopal Church
where they can all come together and teach/discuss theology as it relates to their churches, and where others may ask specific questions, but where no debate is allowed
so it would be a hybrid forum...half way between the safe Ecumenical Communities on the one hand, and the open Theology forums on the other. it would also be different from Unorthodox forums in that the new forum would allow NO DEBATE.
i only have one question from a modding standpoint.........
will debate be allowed between members of the EO Churches, the Church of Rome, the Anglican Church, the Lutheran Church and the Episcopal Church but disallowed for everyone else,
or is it to be a "No Debate, period, from anyone" forum?
Yep Yep Yep!
Hmmm...
May I ask your opinion on the matter?
What is the status of the "Unorthodox Theology" section? Do we debate there? If so, who debates there? Perhaps each of these sections should be non debate areas except for those who ascribe to that Theology? A Protestant Theology (or perhaps Reformed?) subforum would have the same rules wouldn't it?
Forgive me...
If this new Forum comes to be; in the "Statement of Purpose" I would like to see something like "Respectful Debate (or discussion) is allowed between those who hold catholic and orthodox doctrines as defined above." (yet to be defined).
Mark.

i like the idea!i think that the primary purpose of the forum should be discussion, and that reasoned and respectful debate between members of The Church of Rome,The Anglican Church,The Lutheran Church, and The Episcopal Church should be allowed.
i think that any input by Cf members outside of those faiths mentioned above should be a secondary feature, and only allowed to the extent that it does not detract from the primary purpose of the forum. in other words, they would be considered as guests in the home of another, and should act accordingly, and be restricted from debating.
the status of the Unorthodox Theology section is mixed.
some forums have rules that others do not, so it is a very wise move to read the notes before engaging in head-on debate there.![]()
We should not forget our Old Catholic friends.I just want the average lurker to be able to distinguish what is "taught by the Apostolic Churches" (orthodox Theology) in contrast to other groups.
I like this list so far...
reasoned and respectful debate between members of The Eastern Orthodox, The Oriental Orthodox, Church of Rome,The Anglican Church,The Lutheran Church, and The Episcopal Church should be allowed.
Are we leaving anybody out that has rights to claim being "orthodox / catholic"?
All of these groups have "confession, baptism, and belief in The Holy Eucharist" in common.
Forgive me...
