There are so many possible causes for a mass extinction event. I have underlined your gamma ray burst event. The actual list is longer than the list below.
I think it is worth breaking out from the other hypotheses, humans.

Everyone dies anyway, extinction events are personal and global.

Mwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
There only being a single "h" in that sound turns it from an evil laugh into a really emphatic kiss. :D

Very good observation.

There is a righteous, mwhaaaaaa, and an unrighteous, mwhhaaaaaa.

Not many people can detect the double 'h' in the sinful mwhhaaaaaa.

Getting back to the Opening Post - I still find the assumption that only FTL in 10 years will bring more abundance to the human race. Seriously? What about abundant reliable clean cheap energy - something an order of magnitude cheaper than we have today? That's what fusion is meant to represent. What about self-replicating machines - not even naanites but more smart robotic factories that can replicate themselves and build out an abundance of goods? What about non-sentient AI that's doing a bunch of 'dumb' things that actually accumulate into a self-rep factory? What about sentient AI that's not Skynet but more like Aristotle from Arthur C Clarke - or the Minds from The Culture novels?

(Some of Isaac Arthur's earlier video's have his rhoticism - in ability to pronounce R like Elma Thudd. He has since had speech therapy and his work for years has not had this problem.)

These videos cover getting to a Post-Scarcity Economy on Earth - not even the enormous abundance of our solar system. Once we get out into the solar system and start building, it gets really wild. There could be so many of us with so much wealth floating around our own sun that we build an enormous 1km wide telescopic lens to point at every star in the galaxy - and have a whole university dedicated to studying each star.
