The "why" will probably resound within Paul's admonition against Christian participation in pagan idolatry and sacrifices in 1 Corinthians 10:19-21. And Paul's admonition, which begins actually early in Chapter 8 and goes through the end of Chapter 10, reflects what is said in the Song of Moses, in Deuteronomy 32:16-18.

So, even though these passages in themselves aren't the sole sources we can refer to, Paul's reasoning is pretty weighty right here alone.

Peace,
2PhiloVoid

So by those passages it's a strong argument for "when we know it's used for nothing but evil, by evil, we leave it alone."

Good stuff.

Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

You have to read in a non-canonical book that Jannes and Jambres were two of Pharoah's court magicians who did indeed MIMIC some of the miracles done by Moses and Aaron. Interestingly, it was one of the plagues that seemed to involve BLOOD (mosquitoes? Lice?) where the Pharoah's magicians gave up and said "the finger of God is in this thing" and they couldn't duplicate it. And yes, the rod of Moses ate up the rods of the magicians.

no ouija boards

might open one up to spirits, but not God's Spirit.

A ouija board isn't anything but wood and plastic--it has no ability to communicate to anything. The question assumes that ouija boards can be used to communicate to spirits, it can't. It's a child's toy.

Before I became a Christian, I and a few friends of mine began to play with one. When it began to move, we all looked at one another with wide eyes, because we could feel its power. One of my friends was astonished how it gave answers to personal questions only he knew. Then it began to impersonate my mother, who was deceased. It started using hateful language towards me. That's when I knew it was a demon we were communicating with, and I quickly put a stop to it.

There's more, but I don't want to talk about it. I feel that what I have shared should be enough to warn people to stay away from it.

Don't use it. It's evil.

I had similar stories but I wasn't as smart as you to stop it when it started. I also don't like talking about it (people rarely believe that stuff anyway), but I back you up with agreement from personal experience it's never a good idea to mess around with Ouija boards, even if at first a person thinks its harmless.

In this case, I'm going to have to suggest that you refer to the prohibition(s) written in the Old Testament against utilizing the evils of sorcery and divination; and add to this the account of how King Saul's interaction with the Witch of Endor resolved itself, and why.

I think this is the pattern for discerning as to whether or not you--as a Christian-- 'should' use a Ouija board to attempt communication with God.

Peace,

Sorcery is listed as a work of the flesh listed with other sins in Galatians 5:19-21.

When hearing the Gospel in Ephesus many brought their magic scrolls to be burned (Acts 19:19).

Dont go anywhere near them ...teens are more likely to use them than adults , please warn your children about them make sure they dont have friends who are into that kind of thing some teens see it as a way to rebel and that there is danger in it and see it as something to mess around with ...watch your teens
maybe talk to them about the reasons its is so dangerous ...i believe myself that they are evil i use to be involved in witch craft but even then i didn't use one of them i was always warned to stay well away from them by a few people even some people who are involved in witch craft stay well away from them
thankfully i no longer involved in that kinda thing THE DEVIL LIKES TO TEMP US PLEASE FOR YOUR OWN GOOD STAY AWAY FROM IT .

In a discussion earlier today we were discussing what happens in the spiritual if a born-again believer uses a native war drum to worship God?

The current argument is that the redeemed individual sanctifies the instrument.

Following the logic, is a ouija board an acceptable tool to communicate with God?

(For the record, I am not, nor have I ever endorsed using a ouija board to talk to God)

I think the more appropriate question would be Does God use tools of the occult, however superficial, to communicate with us?

Of course not.
They are the means to invite the un-Godly into your life. To reach out to Satan and deceiving
spirits that love to play medium and clairvoyance tricks upon unlearned fools.

To contact God one simply needs to get down and call out to the God of the Bible or to the
God of Israel and pray.
Prayer is the means that we contact the true and living God of salvation.

So the replies seem to come into 2 camps. People who have experimented with Ouija boards and experienced something and people who have no knowledge or experience of them. I fall into the first group that had some experience of it. With me the glass moved and a really strong wind came up out of nowhere as we were outside. We stopped straight away went somewhere else and convinced ourselves it was coincidence. We went somewhere else and tried again by a big school building. The wind started again coming from the direction of the building which seemed unnatural so we stopped. I took the view that if we felt there was a demonic influence there we should pray to counter it. 2 of the 3 of us present went on to become Christians and I lost contact with the third.

Ouija boards cannot be used to talk to God, it is using a demonic tool to try to talk to God and would be like the Israelites in the OT using the Asherah Poles as an altar to worship God. God told the Israelites to tear them down.

I had a coworker, one of these postmodern relativistic types, who told me that he don't need "church music". He said that he could worship God listening to Van Halen. I promptly replied, only if your god is Satan, then, Running with the Devil would be a P&W song.

No. No. No.

Anyone using a drum, or any musical instrument, to worship God, is using their talents to the glory of their Creator.
A Ouija board is about the occult and summoning demons which are enemies of God and do not glorify him at all.

I believe it, especially since you and woobadooba above are sharing perceptions of Ouija board use that randomly parallel those that I've heard from other individuals over the past 25 years. It just adds to my small stockpile of related testimonies.

I thank you and @woobadooba for sharing these tidbits of personal experience with us, JCFantasy23.

...what better way to tempt children (and/or adolescents) into just...merely...dabbling in the occult (whether there is power actually in it or not). Many will ask what hurt can it be to play it, especially since it's 'just' a game, right?

No, Tetra, on this subject, I'm going to have to stand on the side of cautioning against it...even if it's just a piece of cardboard and plastic pieces in a box--from Hasbro no less.

Just sayin'

Biblically speaking, Saul consults with a Medium to speak with the spirit of Samuel and Balaam is hired to curse Israel but instead he blesses Israel. I believe in the right context God will use the tools/people of his choosing as it seems he has done so in scripture.

I certainly think people can dabble in the occult. I'm not trying to downplay a very serious spiritual battle which does (and is) occuring. However, I place zero stock in Ouija boards. To me, it's like asking if you could dabble in the occult while brushing your teeth.
