I don't know if I should stay in current job or try to take course and try for another one with more stable income .

I know people would cast lots in Bible to see God's will for them.
Does this still apply today ? I think yes but i would like to know your opinion , i would not want to try God or force him to do something for me you know .

Hi

I don't think this would be a good way to do it. As the joke goes:

A man wanted to know God's will, so he opened his Bible randomly and read the first words he saw. "And Judas hung himself". Well, thought the man, that's not good advice, so he opened his Bible again. "Go do thou likewise".

Any casting of lots we see is before Pentecost, before we all had the Holy Spirit. My suggestion would be to look at why you want to change job, to me it sounds like a good reason for you. Discuss it with other Christians and listen to that still small voice.

The other thing is I am not sure that there is always a "right" answer. We don't see people in the Bible praying about career paths, or who to marry - though of course these things should be prayerfully considered. I think sometimes God does allow us freedom and asks, what do you want to do?

The only biblical passage in the New Testament where this is mentioned is here.

23 So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. 24 Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen 25 to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” 26 Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.
Acts 1:23-26 NIV

As I recall, no other verses in the New Testament mention this. I think there was something unique about this passage. In the book of Acts, there are *not* any more mentions of casting lots. Many people are selected for many things and no mention of casting lots. In the book of Acts, many decisions are made and no mention of casting lots. In the epistles, no mention is made of casting lots.

I do not think casting lots was standard practice. It seemed to have been done once in a unique situation.

I think that the best thing is to pray and meditate about your situation, talk to other Christians, and do more research about more options. Get a sense of what God wants you to do in the future. Maybe there are other courses or directions God wants you to take.

I spent years in a job that I was frustrated with. I kept wondering if God wanted me to leave and find a new job. No other jobs seemed right. Later, it became clear it was time to leave. God had a great new job lined up for me. It was with a good organization. It was a career change. I had good colleagues. If you have confusion, it might be because the new opportunity God wants you to have is not there yet.

May God bless you and guide you on your job and career path. :)

What do you want, to study ot have a stable income?
Why do you want either of those?

God does not micro manage his people. We have the bible, sermons and other Christians to point out that God wants us to serve him, where we do that he leaves to us.

I think that's the kind of thing that would get in the way of you learning from the situation, and taking whatever there is to learn from the decision making process. My overall impression from the bible is that God is reluctant to make decisions for us, if he ever does at all.

Because I currently make too little ( about half or less minimum wage ) also have no degrees . I wanted to become priest but after I read bible i cannot be catholic priest and my country is 99,9% catholic ( for example there are about 5800 registered people who attend to baptist churches around the country out of 37M people ) .

I was thinking of doing two 9 months courses for Plasterer or 2 year course for Electrican .

Proverbs 16:33

Casting lots occurred mostly in the old testament...something like seventy times, it was used when dividing land...ref: chapters 33, 36, 26 of Numbers.
Used to determine God's will in chapter 18 of Joshua and different functions and offices in the temple was determined by lots in chapters 24, 25 and 26 of 1 Chronicles.

In chapter 1 of Jonah the sailors cast lots to determine who'd brought God's wrath upon
their ship.

In chapter 1 of Acts it was used to determine who'd replace Judas and in chapter 27 of Matthew the soldiers cast lots to determine who'd get Jesus' garments.

Should a believer today use games of chance to determine a matter?
Let's see what the Bible relates to finding some thing out....

John 16:13-15
"But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
"He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.
"All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you."

James 1:5
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."

Colossians 1:
3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, 4 since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, 5 because of the hope laid up for you in heaven.
Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, 6 which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and increasing—as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth, 7 just as you learned it from Epaphras our beloved fellow servant.
He is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf 8 and has made known to us your love in the Spirit.

9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.

First off, be found in Him...that is to say, be saved.
Those who are saved, the holy spirit dwells with them, and His job is
conviction of sin/ lead/guide/reveal truth.
The Lord himself stated he'd never leave and or forsake believers.
And believers are to pray and to be in prayer for another.

Proverbs 16:33
Tossing a coin is 50/50. It's a gamble, God prohibits gambling and just so your clear, you can not and never will be able to force God to or for anything. Bible lesson 101

Go with what your heart tells you, pray to God to open the right door and more importantly shut the wrong door. This is what it means to step out in faith. Walk forward with what you decide and trust God to put you on the road He wants you on. If it works out, mint. If it don't, God will use it to teach you something, also mint. It's a mint mint situation.

They cast lots to pick a substitute for Judas. They got two men. No one ever heard of those men again, in the Bible. Instead the Almighty picked Paul. I would suggest fasting and praying. A 24 hour water only fast works great.

Your right, He isn't.
There's no confusion in my post however. Would you believe that I know a Christian who longs for a partner but will not seek to find one. He believes by praying to God that a sweetheart is going to knock at his door. I told him to step out in faith and God will do the rest if it's His will.

My point being that if you feel it in your heart to change, then go for it.
Ask God to open the right and close the wrong doors because unlike you Dad, I can't see the road ahead of me. I will however go with what my confused mind and heart tells me but I will trust that you God will guide my steps. Your word tells me that you will guide my paths and I am holding you to your word. That's how I will trust in you, it's the only way I can trust in you. It's by faith and your word says that faith is the confidence in what we hope for and the assurance for what we do not see. Hebrews 11

I believe he should step out in faith. Whilst a water only fasting is great, I believe it is great for cruicifying the flesh ( breaking a habit ) I really suggest He goes with His heart and trust God to do the rest. My two cents

If they cast lots to select 12th apostle after Judas died , were they doing God's will to even cast lots ? We know Paul was apostle of Christ and we know there are 12 gates for 12 apostles in new Jerusalem , so was Matthias that 12th apostle or Paul was 12th apostle ?

Christians answer this question in two ways.

One answer is that there are only 12 "apostles". This then raises the question if Matthias or Paul was the 12th.

The second answer is that the word apostle is simply anyone who God "sent". This is because the word apostle is a word that can describe anyone who is sent by God. It would then include Paul, Matthias, and other Christians that God specifically sent out to share the gospel. In this case, there are a special 12 selected for special ministry to Israel (sitting on the 12 thrones and having names on the gates of New Jerusalem).

I think it is fine to ask questions about the 12th apostle, but the answer is speculation. This is the type of question that I will not spend much time on because there is little to be gained by arguing about which answer is correct. When some Christians start arguing about who has the right answer, I believe that these are questions can become like those described in Titus 3:9 (But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.)

God is not author of confusion .

I Cor 14:33 is the verse referenced here. In the English AV version, it is "For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints." The italics show that the word author is not in the original Greek but added by the AV translators. Other translations do not add the word author. For example the NIV reads "For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people." The important thing is that Paul is writing about problems in the church meetings. He is NOT writing about personal knowledge of our future choices.

There are times that we all have questions about what God wants us to do. We need to learn to walk with Him daily. We need to learn to follow Him daily. The reason God does not reveal everything to us is because He wants to walk with us. He wants us to walk with Him daily. A part of that walk is learning to listen to Him and what He wants us to do. Consistent prayer, bible reading, being with other Christians, are all ways of learning more about God and getting closer to Him. Sometimes, God's direction is clear to us. Sometimes, He has us wait for awhile before He shows us where to go. The important thing is that our life is to be spent getting closer to Him on a daily basis.

I spent about 20 years in one job. There were times it got so frustrating that I looked for other jobs. I was offered a few other jobs, but I just felt that it would be wrong to take them. I was offered one good job with a respected company. Everything about that job seemed good (more money, a more secure company, they would pay for more schooling, it was in a good location), BUT I just knew in my heart I was NOT supposed to take it. Finally, when it was time for me to leave the job, God made it very clear (through circumstances) that it was time to go. As it turned out, about 3 months after I left, the company unexpectedly started shutting down and I probably would have lost my job anyway. The next job I had was clearly where God wanted me to be.

There are times we are frustrated and want change. We look to any possibility. We do not have a clear sense of where God wants us to go. Then there are the times that God is clearly calling us toward something. Sometimes, we need to overcome fear of change and step out in faith. Sometimes, we need to be patient and wait. Sometimes we need to actively research our opportunities and options. Sometimes God will bring something unexpected to us. The important thing is walking closely with God so that we get a clear sense of where He is guiding us.

Which course are you best suited for achedmically and in your attitude/aptitude for them.

You need to determine which course you can qualify in and go for it.
While studying join a Christian church and take part in serving the people there.
If you have any ability it will be recognised by your church and they will help you train.
