If an Eastern Orthodox person falls in love with a protestant can he marry her?
Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.
Under certain circumstances, yes. But, as the Engineering Officer on "Hunt for Red October" said in response to being asked if they could go to 105% on the reactor (the Commanding Officer would already know the answer to that question in the first place, and that extra 5% would give that submarine an extremely negligible amount of extra speed, which the CO would also know as he is intimately familiar with all aspects of submarine operations, ESPECIALLY including reactor/propulsion plant operations, so that scenario from that movie is quite unrealistic and drives me a little bit bananas just thinking about it... unless the Russian Navy really is that bad... I can't watch submarine movies...), "It's possible... BUT NOT RECOMMENDED!" (I'm watching that movie and I'm all like "shut up, you idiot, like you even know!")
If converting to the Orthodox Church restricts my potential wife pool from 50% of U.S. to 0.5% of the U.S. that is an issue... And i'm only 5'6" i got enough issues with dating as it is!
Hi Michael,
I was 24 and seeking once upon a time. I can relate.
It really is incredibly important in the long term that your (future) wife have the same outlook/worldview as you. The conflicts that can and will arise will cost far more than the perhaps several years of waiting to find someone who will see life the way you do, agree on a common manner of raising children, of going to the same church on Sunday - these are all actually huge things.
Honestly, depending on how desperate you are, if you come to Russia for a while your chances of finding a would-be Orthodox bride are extraordinarily high. Just go hang out in a local church for six months or so. If you did convert you'd be a hot item over here...
Seriously, waiting sucks. But a line I got from an old film ("Gotcha") proved to be true - "even a dog has his day". When things click, it'll have been worth the wait.

Orthodox marrying Catholics and Protestants definitely happens.
M.
I was just going to ask...
Out of sheer curiosity's sake, IS it common for Orthodox Christians to marry Catholics? Not many, if any of the other Catholics I know are married to Orthodox folks, but I'm sure it must be more common than I think...
I'm not in any sort of rush, just trying to think long-term and realistically
