The falling away that is talked about is a warning to check yourself constantly because God knows who the elect are..
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
(Heb 13:5)
Does this sentence make sense to you?
What is the purpose of the warning?
There are guidlines in scripture to show you what a regenerate person looks like.
Why warn us against falling away if it is not possible?
Your beliefs don't fit the words of scripture.
Can you shipwreck a boat that you don't have?
1 Timothy 1:19 "Keeping faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and their faith has been shipwrecked".
But we can leave him.
That's the point.
If you can walk away, then maybe your are not a sheep.
Sheep wander but they never fall away because Christ goes after them and he will not let them fall away.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
(Joh 10:27)
Christ spoke of how many of His sheep he would lose. How many do you think that is?
Hebrews 10:29 "How much worse punishment do you think will be deserved by those who have spurned the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant by which they were sanctified, and outraged the Spirit?"
If the sanctified can profane the blood of the covenant, anyone can.
You must heare his voice AND follow.
If you hear his voice, you will follow.
That's what sheep do.
Romans:
14What shall we say then? Is there injustice on Gods part? By no means! 15For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." 16So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy. 17For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."
This has nothing to do with salvation.
This has to do with our situation in life while on earth.
Wrong. It has to do with the desicions God makes. It applies to temporal as well as eternal.
In your opinion.
And everyone else who has ever believed in predestination, including Paul, Augustine, Aquinas, Luther, Calvin, Edwards, Spurgeon, Sproul, Piper..there is a very long list.
But we can leave him.
That's the point.
You can try to "claim" Paul, but the east "claims" him, too
(and they speak Paul's language)
Pope Benedict XVI has declared 28 June 2008 to 29 June 2009 the Year of St. Paul to celebrate of the 2,000th anniversary of St Pauls birth.
That alone pretty much predestines everything, doesn't it?Paul?
God knows who will make it, we don't. Not even Paul:
Not if you are elect, you can't. Christ will draw all whom the Father gives to Him, and he will raise them up on the last day. There is no "I'll try to raise them up" or "If they let me, I will raise them up". It is a statement of intent, and the ones on the receiving end of the action are a very specific group. The ones who the Father gives Him. Nobody else. Nobody else can even come to Christ. (John 6:37, 44)
