  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Caffeine

Whats your personal view of caffeine and the health effects or benefits?

I intake caffeine on a regular basis and I notice a definite difference. My reflexes are sharper, my vision is clearer, my mind works faster.

When I go to work I have a can of Jolt Cola on my break or in the morning before I start. I tend to crash later on in the day, but usually when Im going home or at home. After the crash, the improved vision and reflexes are still there.

Probably not the healthiest thing in the world but without it, my vision gets blurry and I get slow :)

Caffeine used right, can be an incredible health benefit. It speeds up the metabaolic process so it promotes fat loss. It has been proven to do all the things it does to you. I would limit the Jolt cola though. That has a ton of sugar in it and that is what is making you crash. You get the sugar high and the the low follows. My caffeine intake is in the form of coffee or a pre-workout drink and I can tell you that without it I too am lost.

I disagree.

Caffeine is not a health benefit. To the contrary is is a health hazard.

1. It strips your bones of Calcium, which is needed for strong bones.

2. It causes high blood pressure, which can lead to a stroke.

3. It causes unnatural tachycardia, which can lead to a heart-attack

4. It eats away the lining of your stomach, which can lead to ulcers, and other epigastric problems such as heart burn, which could in turn lead to acid reflux, which could also lead to cancer of the esophagus.

And so what if it speeds up the metabolism, and helps you lose weight. There are pleanty of things on the market that contain high levels of caffiene that have been proven to be hazerdous to one's health, which promote weight loss. To argue that it is a health benefit simply because it helps you lose weight is just not reasonable.

Try almonds or dried fruit. They are healthier snacks. Coffee is probably better. At least it isn't full of sugar.

Jolt Cola in the morning?! *oooo, shudder...*

Ahem...

He is asking if caffiene is healthy or not. Telling Him to drink coffee doesn't answer the question.

Do you have any medical information to back this up?

Just do a simple search on the internet for the hazards of caffiene, and I am sure you will find it all there.

Most people who are health conscious are aware that caffiene does these things.

Here is the funny thing though and i realize we are getting off topic. For every study that you find against the use of caffeine, there is another study that says it good for you. I feel that caffeine has benefited me more than not. Individually it is up to the user. And I was not saying that caffeine was good simply because you lose weight. I was saying that was an added benefit. And I also said that caffeine used in the right way and in moderation can be beneficial. If you consume too much of anything it can be a bad thing.

Caffeine isn't healthy for you. If you need a recreational drug to keep you sharp and awake, there's something wrong with your lifestyle or sleep pattern. Caffeine is a cardiac stimulant (it actually increases the production of epi/nor-epi and can cause tachycardia, palpitations, bounding pulses, sometimes sinus arrhythmias, etc.). It is also a diuretic, so you'll find your sodium, potassium, and water metabolism and balance a little more off than usual. It's easier to get dehydrated.

Caffeine tolerance is usually dependent on the user. Give me too much and I have tachycardia for a day. How fun. Then there are those who have some tolerance built up.
It's classified as a "recreational drug". I think fine without caffeine.

wow, i thought jolt cola got discontinued. But i guess some states still carry hit; i'm jealous :p

bro ... not only do they still make jolt cola, but one of our high school students had jolt gum, which i think advertised 3x as much caffeine as a cup of coffee.
