• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My addiction to smoking started way back when I was around ten years old. My uncle Joe used to smoke Kools and my cousins and I stole a whole pack from his drawer and went up to the garage attic and started to smoke.

That was it for me. I used to steal smokes, bum them and for 26 years I smoked on and off, never eally quitting just different levels of chain smoking.

Met my future wife in 1995 and she hated guys that smoked. I lied to her and told her I quit, but was smoking in private. Finally I had to smoke again and fromt hat poit on I lied to her and told her I would and could quit. For years she put up with me, and when I became a Christian I could not wait to get out of church to have a smoke.

One day I asked God to take away the urges and the pain and He did. I still had to not grab for the pipe, but He made it easier. July 1, 2005 it will be two years. I have no urge to smoke, thanks be to God!

For real!! That is the worst feeling in the world. I was on staff at my old church with their Day Camp and the Junior High ministries while smoking. Only a few of my close freinds knew and they didn't know how bad it was. I remember one time I cut a meeting with one of the kids short so I could go sneak up on the roof to have a smoke (I was living at the church at the time too). Hopefully this time is for good, I have been tobacco free for a month now.

Waylon,

I know how it feels to be a recent quitter. I'm now clean for 3 weeks. It's been rough at times. Friends telling me to stop drooling after thier ciggies. Nibbling on your toenails. Chasing the cat with a stapler (don't ask why, but it makes me feel better).

Anyway, on a serious note, I'm with you on this one. Lets keep in touch and see if we can keep it up.

God bless

on friday i will have been done with smoking for a month. i didnt really want to quit smoking at first. i was getting all these vibes that i should quit smoking though so one morning i prayed to god and said "look, i know u want me to quit but i really don't. however i'll try b/c u want me to. so ur gonna have to be my strength and quit for me, b/c i'll never do it otherwise." i had one ciggerette that day and haven't touched another one since. im surprised at how easy it was considering i was a heavy smoker for about 5 years. i rarely get a craving, and the smell really makes me sick anymore!!

 You guys are all in my prayers. I have never smoked but having brothers who do, I know how difficult it is to quit. Remember that you have help in the person of Jesus Christ. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!!
