I have this sudden image of Boris at the dispatch box mooning the opposition:eek:
I think Rees-Mogg already did that with his "nap". Only he also mooned the entire population of the UK.

The only thing missing at this point is Boris setting light to London and playing on his fiddle.

Well with the opposition refusing an early election, and Boris pledging not to obey the law passed by parliament, will he resign, call a vote of no confidence in himself, or hope to get the opposition to call a vote of no confidence.

I was at an anti Brexit March in Germany today. We discussed this and other stuff. There are a great many delaying tactics being employed. The PM could refuse to follow the parliamentary vote to ask for another extension by simply refusing to ask the EU for that extension or persuading just one EU state to veto it. This would mean Brexit happens by default. Since this defies parliamentary sovereignty ( which he claims was handed to the people for this issue) parliament is surely obliged to declare a state of no confidence in the government and call an election.

It seems to me stupid to delay this election as clearly parliament is the problem right now barring any clear resolution of the problem. But Corbyn knows he will not beat Boris at the polls and especially if Farrage swings behind him.

The consensus today was it would be really convenient if Corbyn got struck by lightning and removed from the equation as then a revocation alliance could form to counter what is otherwise the irresistable momentum of Brexit. Without Corbyn there would be a majority for revocation in parliament and the country.

Well, he did refuse to come back from his holiday when the London rioters were burning London. That's pretty much the same thing.

Boris Johnson 'could be jailed for refusing to seek Brexit delay'
It looks like the opposition will be going to court to ensure that Boris follows the law, deliberately sabotaging it, or refusing to carry it out would be a criminal act that would see him facing prison as he is not immune from the law.

Will being a BREXIT martyr get him elected at the election when it finally comes. Could he be elected from inside Wormwood Scrubs.

The easier strategy for Boris would be to send a junior rep to Brussels but prearrange an EU country to veto the extension. There are ways around this. Eventually this has to go to the people and since neither side wants a referendum then an election is all we have.

What do you mean, neither side? It was my impression that only one side is opposed to a referendum.

The Lib Dems and SNP and lone Green MP seem to be the only MPs unambiguously committed to a referendum that includes the Revocation option. Corbyn has vacillated on this and not made a clear statement and the impression is that he is a closet BREXITEER himself.

Corbyn hat at least been very clearly in support of a referendum.

Jeremy Corbyn on Twitter

"In those circumstances" being the key phrase. He has left it open that if he were PM he could negotiate a new Labour Brexit deal. Also this is a new position to which he has been led kicking and screaming by his own party and by circumstance. Corbyn has too many ifs and buts about him.

Would the revocation of Britains intention to leave the EU be undemocratic?

Should it happen or not?

What if the issue to be decided was beyond feasibility? For example, say the government held a referendum that the moon was to be made from blue cheese from Saturday on-wards? Say we voted yes? On Sunday if the moon was still the moon would this be undemocratic?

In the referendum campaign in 2016 what was presented by vote leave was simplistic to the extent of being unrealistic.

It's not about democracy, it's about reality.

God Bless :)

There is a loophole to the extension legislation. If he passes a deal he does not need to seek and extension, so if he gets a deal through parliament but does not ratify it, then we leave on ‘no deal’. The legislation says not one syllable about it needing to be ratified. Looking at how the DUP are changing course over the border, I wonder whether he’s told them he has no intention of ratifying a deal passed by parliament.

Corbyn trying to do this through parliament rather than with an election or referendum seems to have backfired. As you say the sitting government can play the loopholes in the letter of the law until the finishing line since the default position for Halloween is that Britain leaves Europe. Time runs out, with no extension and no ratified new deal, hey presto BREXIT. It would have been better to put this to the people ideally with a referendum but failing that with an election. I think it is too late now and time has actually run out. The opposition will come back in mid October but not actually be able to halt the flow of events unless they call for a vote of no confidence and an election and getting an election arranged in 2 weeks is not going to happen.

In the next election the choice will be between Jeremy Corbyn and a criminal anarchist.
