The FBI has infiltrated a "Bible study" group in Virginia that after the January 6 riot had members discussing surveilling the US Capitol and their wish for secession from the US, and investigators closely followed one member's plans to build and test Molotov cocktails, according to recently unsealed court records.

The agent then attended what the group members called a "Bible study" meeting at an Alexandria, Virginia, house in February, where the group members discussed the Bible and secession, weaponry and combat training, and using methods to make their communications private, according to court records.

Must be one of those American Bibles.

What happened that day was horrific - especially after the President told the crowd to respect the Police and stay peaceful.

Trump tells supporters to 'stay peaceful' as protesters storm Capitol

Then later:

“I know your pain. I know you’re hurt. We had an election that was stolen from us. It was a landslide election and everyone knows it, especially the other side, but you have to go home now,” Trump said, continuing to assert claims he has failed to prove in court. “We have to have peace. We have to have law and order.”

Right, after he poured gasoline and lit the match....and then sat in the White House bemused while the Congress was attacked. The POTUS first duty is to protect the nation and our institutions from all enemies, foreign and domestic.

That is not what the evidence shows. Sorry

For some, the Capitol attack was a kind of Christian revolt.

Late last month, one of the accused Jan. 6 Capitol insurrectionists told a D.C. judge that she didn’t recognize his authority and was making a “divine special appearance.” Another one of the accused streams a solo religious service each week that he calls “Good Morning Sunday Morning.” A third runs a 65,000-subscriber YouTube channel where she shares Bible verses and calls herself a “healer of deep inner wounds.”

... the country is in a period when institutional religion is breaking apart, becoming more individualized and more disconnected from denominations, theological credentials and oversight.

Some scholars see this era as a spiritually fertile period, like the ones that produced Pentecostalism or Mormonism. Others worry about religious illiteracy and the lack of supervision over everything from theological pronouncements to financial practices.

Even before Jan. 6, some sociologists said the fastest-growing group of American Christians are those associated with independent “prophets” who largely operate outside denominationalism.

...what researchers studying Jan. 6 find remarkable are the leaderless, idiosyncratic expressions of religion that day.

Some have found in recent years a growing overlap between White Americans who put a high value on individualism and libertarianism and those who embrace Christian nationalism, a cultural belief that America is defined by Christian identity, heritage and social order and that the government needs to protect it.

McConnell of Trump:

a disgraceful, disgraceful dereliction of duty

I'd need an abacus to tally up the number of people who've said that about McConnell... To hear it said by him is no small event.

Six months after January 6, right-wing media have waged a full-scale campaign to cover up the events
It’s not just about 2020 — this is a propaganda campaign for 2024

What happened on January 6 was very much the result of a right-wing media propaganda operation that sought to delegitimize the 2020 election. Since then, there has been an effort to cover up what happened and to spread further conspiracy theories that would erase any semblance of accountability.

Right-wing media also spread the constitutionally baseless proposal for Vice President Mike Pence to unilaterally reject Electoral College votes from states Biden won — a dictatorial assertion that one person had the power to nullify a presidential election. Proponents of this maneuver included Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk, Judicial Watch head Tom Fitton, MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, pro-Trump lawyer Joe diGenova, far-right blogger Pamela Geller, and multiple guests on Steve Bannon’s War Room: Pandemicshow.

When the mob stormed the Capitol, a number of far-right commentators openly cheered on the attempted coup. These included former Trump adviser Sebastian Gorka, who declared that “patriots have taken over Capitol Hill. … God willing it will continue to be peaceful, but a message has been sent.” The right-wing site Gateway Pundit also repeatedly referred to the rioters as “patriots,” even as they fought with the police and caused members of Congress and Pence to take shelter. The Alex Jones Show guest host Harison Smith further praised the “patriots,” declaring, “This is what happens when Americans rise up.”

The next spin: These weren’t Trump supporters
The Orwellian next step: “There was no insurrection”
The ultimate conspiracy theory that began with Alex Jones and is now led by Tucker Carlson [i.e. January 6 was a false-flag operation organized by the FBI.]
The continued campaign to delegitimize the 2020 election
Still tearing down the last election — in preparation to steal the next one

Fortunately, I'm not the only one keeping and posting the receipts.

New Oath Keeper arrest: David Moerschel joined Capitol riot 'stack' and stashed rifle at 'QRF' hotel in Ballston

A 12th member of the Oath Keepers military-style "stack" formation that ascended the east steps on Jan. 6 and entered the US Capitol has been charged with conspiracy in the government's widening investigation of the militia group.

In one message sent on the morning after the insurrection, Moerschel mentioned a "QRF" [Quick Reaction Force] hotel in northern Virginia, where the government alleges that several Oath Keepers stashed firearms.

"We have your bag," Moerschel allegedly wrote to another Oath Keeper. "We will leave it with Kane at the QRF. We are en route there now."

Not sure what's more surprising -- that Sears was actually selling this t-shirt for a short time, or that Sears was actually selling anything at all.

I first read that as Mel Brooks.

Be better for Donald if it had been -- at least his defense would be well-written and entertaining.

ETA: Mel Brooks' son, Max Brooks, may be best known for his zombie stories (he wrote the novel World War Z, which was infinitely better than the film only loosely based on it), but he also happens to be a nonresident fellow at the Modern War Institute at West Point.

Donald certainly would have been better off had he counted that Brooks family as his allies...

“The person that shot Ashli Babbitt — boom, right through the head,” Trump said. “Just, boom. There was no reason for that. And why isn’t that person being opened up, and why isn’t that being studied? They’ve already written it off. They said that case is closed. If that were the opposite, that case would be going on for years and years, and it would not be pretty.”

The comments by Trump, Gosar and others also echo those of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who last month raised Babbitt’s death in an interview with NBC News.

It's bad enough this poor misguided woman was killed in service of THE Big Lie.... now her legacy is being use as a tool for justifying criminal conduct by insurrectionists.
