John 20:19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the disciples had gathered together31 and locked the doors32 of the place33 because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders.34 Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." 20:20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.35 20:21 So Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. Just as the Father has sent me, I also send you." 20:22 And after he said this, he breathed on them and said,36 "Receive the Holy Spirit.37 20:23 If you forgive anyone's sins, they are forgiven;38 if you retain anyone's sins, they are retained."39
Well, this is the scripture I have often heard used to justify blowing on people, as though Jesus was developing a technique for dramatic effect during prayer lines. Sounds like a stretch to me, but if you want to find a scripture to rationalize any sort of bizarre behavior, I am sure there is one in the Bible somewhere if you are willing to twist and tweak it enough.

What bothers me some about this blowing on people thing is that the only scripture for it is Jesus giving the Holy Spirit to those who previously did not have it. Blow on me and I will be offended by the implication.

What bothers me about the falling down thing is that the only NT references I see for it involved Non-Christians. Those who had come to the mount to seize Jesus to kill Him, and some demon possessed people.

Maybe I'm just not recalling certain other NT references? If that is the case, please post them.

Thank you,
Asaph

I would do that to sean if God told me. Wind is spirit isn't it? Did not life start with a breath in the garden? Some time I wonder about some of you and the condemnation that comes from your mouths. ( forgive me Lord ) But a good rebuke is needed. Where people not blessed? Was Jesus not lift up? Where is the bad fruit? We will never get to the glory of God or enter the cloud because it will not fit our doctrine. Sound like the Pharisees and Jesus doesn't it. "MY WAY"S ARE NOT YOUR WAY"S SAY"S THE LORD". " CAN THE POT SAY TO THE POTTER WHY DID YOU MAKE ME LIKE THIS".

I kind of like the idea of the "right-cross" anointing.

BUT, I won't pursue it or try to imitate it unless led specifically by the Holy Spirit.

David attacked the Philistines head on after God said he would have the victory. The next time David met the Philistines, he asked the Lord, "Do I meet them head on like the last time?"

"Oh no!" said the Lord, "Wait for a rustling of the wind in the tops of the mulberry trees."

God does everything for a purpose: the blowing, the spittle and mud, speaking the word, laying on of hands... all has a purpose.

I don't think that any of us should pick and choose by what method that the Lord will use. If He uses a gift in you and through you and He causes it to be a sign and wonder unto others by the method He uses, then so be it. But let God worry about the methodology...

and the results...

I use a single finger touch technique when I pray for people. I don't place my whole hand on them. I don't push people down. I don't give anyone an excuse ever to go down under any other power than by the Presence of God.

But it's what God uses in me. Yes, people fall. No, they don't all fall under the power. But I sure as jingle didn't push them down.

I know you would, and that is how it should be. So many people try to force the annointing in a variety of ways. My personal favorite is the Darlene Zschech clone coming to a stage near you....

Revelation 1:17- And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last...

We could say as well this this could be a "far stretch"...

I believe that succumbing to the Powerful Presence of the Almighty as we live in this weak flesh is the point.

I have been in God's Presence so, until I am "under" His power when I am simply alone in worship. Literally, no flesh can stand to glory in His Presence.

And I am the most adamant that if someone wants to minister prayer unto me that I will not take a "courtesy" fall. If you're not walking in the Presence and Glory of God and that power is not emanating from your being, then I most assuredly will not "fall under the power" because, what power is there to "fall under"???

But when the anointing is tangible and real... to where you can sense it so strongly in the Spirit that those sensations "bleed" into the natural realm of the flesh, then it has the power to supercede the strength of the flesh altogether.

That's not a statement of justification. Simply an observation of experience.

What I was comparing this to, was many years ago, I used to go to every tent revival that came to our town.. even when I was a kid.. I remember, the presence of the Lord so strong, that when believer and unbeliever alike walked into the tent, everyone would go down to the power of God. It did not take a blower, pusher, or anything. Everyone was affected the same way. Is this a different sort of presence of God.. and you could see the smoke of God in that tent.. Why aren't we seeing this today, when believer and unbeliever could not stand in His presence?

Trish,

The tangibility of the Presence of God is the tangibility of the Presence of God. It is not necessarily contained but it does flow as wind or water flows (in its tangible sense).

The same tangible Presence that Moses saw and was in the tabernacle in the wilderness was the same tangible Presence that you saw in the tent and the same tangible Presence of that "mist" or "fog" that I have seen as well.

I really don't understand what kind of faith is acted upon to see such things or to feel God's tangible Presence, but I know that it is just as real as I see my hands typing on this keyboard.

When I start talking about the Glory of Jesus, I begin to see this mist (smoke, fog, etc.) in the building. It is unreal to the natural senses, yet I see it with my natural eyes.

I would like to refute you here RP.

I would say as what you are describing as more of a sense of God, like almost seeing into the spirit realm. The real tangible evidence of God is a changed life. Nothing more indicates God's presence than in someone that is completely changed and renewed by the Holy Spirit.

I too have experienced some very remarkable responses to the presence of God. Looking back, they all seem to have been spontaneous as were similar events we find in the Bible. And, as you indicate, they were, like, years ago. Perhaps, today, we are trying (in the “flesh”) to manufacture these events by mimicking what we find in the Bible or remember from our personal history.

I am certainly not opposed to any demonstration of God’s power that is authentic. It is when we try to create or recreate it that it leaves a bad taste in our mouth. It lacks authenticity and seems like what it is, a poor copy of the real thing. We can not work up the presence of God by our antics. In fact, we may hinder His presence when we do.

Ironically, sometimes, in our feeble efforts to not quench the Spirit we, in fact, do that very thing.

What do you think.

May I refute "sense" of God?

There is evidence of the Presence of God in people's lives. This is true, and we call it fruit, as much as fruit on the tree is evidence of life within the tree itself.

The tangibility, however, seems to be self-sufficient in that it comes from the ZOE life of God Himself. It is His Essence. His Virtue.

If I say water is tangible, you understand that I am saying that you can deal with it and handle it in some form or sense. Whether it be in the form of solid, liquid or gaseous, you can not only see its evidence BUT YOU CAN ACTUALLY WITNESS IT IN AND OF ITSELF.

I have a power sprayer. I use it to clean off my sidewalks and porch. I not only see the evidence of where it has been applied, but I can actually, physically, tangibly see and feel the water. This is not simply my imagination. It is a reality.

Likewise, the Presence of God is tangible. Maybe only in the sense that we WITNESS it with our physical senses. But, if you skip over into the realm of the tangible Presence too long, you start to realize that it is more real than what we do see, feel, taste and touch in the earthly realm. For, after all, this invisible is the stuff which was used to create the visible. So which would be greater: the stuff we see or the stuff that we don't see that makes up the stuff that we do see?
