  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

If some groups are treated more harshly in sentencing then other groups, that will result in disparities ...

From ... https://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles1/nij/grants/208129.pdf

Results: Eighty-five studies meeting our stated eligibility criteria were located. Analysis of these data reveal that, after taking into account defendant criminal history and current offense seriousness, African-Americans and Latinos were generally sentenced more harshly than whites.
...

Conclusions: Overall, these findings call into question the so-called “no discrimination thesis.” These findings suggest that policy-makers need to re-evaluate sentencing practices, especially in regards to drug offenses and the decision to incarcerate.
So that’s less than 1/2 percent of the population. Even if you are correct, that’s not enough to say that one group is over-incarcerated.

Facts is facts.

I'm not attempting to overcome your bias ...

What do you mean by bias?
Hammster: "So that’s less than 1/2 percent of the population. Even if you are correct, that’s not enough to say that one group is over-incarcerated."

That's not a fact ... that's an opinion.

And opinion is subject to bias ...

Do the math. Research it yourself. Maybe my numbers are wrong. Tell me what numbers you come up with.

How many have to be subject to such discrimination before it becomes real to you ?
You’ve somehow linked a small percentage of people with the broader idea of income inequality. So how do a small percentage criminals prevent someone of a similar skin color from being successful?

Well ... first of all, the people affected by the issue of overincarceration ... are not all criminals.

To some extent, the innocent get caught up in that net as well (witness the unduly incarcerated individuals who dna evidence has recently cleared).

Also, there are family members. The overall effect, is likely, larger than you imagine ....

You aren’t answering. For instance, how did someone’s unfair incarceration affect your ability to be productive?

For instance, if a father is wrongly incarcerated, ... that will have a negative effect on his kids ...

And only people of color are wrongly incarcerated, correct? And their children are doomed to a life of economic inequality?

People of color are OVERincarcerated.

That's what 85 studies show.

So, yes, that OVERincarceration does affect the success of their children.

All of them are innocent? That IS injustice.
