  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Middle child here...had to help care for my younger siblings and tolerate being bossed by the older ones. :p With that being said, I would never trade my lot in life for anything different. :)

Middle kids are sweet.
I have 3. The youngest is the clown of the family and ultimately funny. He had to earn his position somehow. The oldest has bossed them around quite a bit. I really had to help the middle one.
The middle one helps me, if I don't know where something is he finds it. He always listens. He is the peacemaker.
They used to fight in the back of the car but since I put him in the middle it's lovely peaceful with a long drive.

Ah, memories of sitting in the middle of the back seat if the car. My older sister sat at the front, got to learn how to drive. my two brothers sat at the back on either side of me. They were close to the doors.

I felt like a pig.

The stereotypes of older, middle, younger are often true. I saw this the other day and it sums up my family pretty well:

I am a middle child with two brothers. My older brother was very bossy and just did his own thing, while my younger always seemed to get the most attention and got away with a lot. I on the other hand always felt like the odd one out. And despite my brothers hitting and breaking things when they got angry, I would never start fights or break anything. I would however fight back when my younger started a fight, LOL. So yeah... just don't forget about your middle. :)

This is interesting...thanks for sharing. I wonder how accurate it is or if it was just created as a "guideline".

Well, since I didn't grow up with my other siblings, only my brother and sister, I seem to be the middle child. I don't know about the social and easy going part. I'm only really social in small groups and if I get angry...

Also, I feel life is what you make of it.

It depends also, if you lived with say cousins or lots of others in your household/close proximity, not just your immediate family. So you could be middle with those traits if you had to look after your younger cousin for example.

Well, I'm the youngest but the chart didn't fit me well either. I'm not out going, I don't get bored easily, or a risk taker. I was always more of a peace keeper/maker.
Yeah, don't take it as gospel. It was only a general analysis of how children tend to develop in that environment. Obviously there are many other factors in people's lives that shape them.

How does this work if there are more than three children? There can't be "the middle child". :p Those steryotypes never really worked with my family. The ones in the chart I can't really describe anyone in my family as all one or another of them. I think personality is a lot more complex than what order you were born in.
I was one of the eldest, just not the eldest. In many things I was the first to do things, but in some things the others were the first to do things. I was also the last in some things. ^_^

Well there are four in my family and I was middle as my two younger brothers were twins.
But definitely the eldest tends to be either favoured or more responsible and the younger ones spoiled/babied or favoured as well.

Another dynamic is how many brothers and sisters you have. Having no brothers, or no sister, and whether you get along. If none of your siblings is the opposite sex, you might have no clue about somethings...or nobody of the same sex...
