117/ What did Elisha do to help the wife of a dead prophet ?

Elisha had her gather vessels, as many as she could, and by God's grace, they were filled with oil, and she was able to sell it, so that her sons would not be taken into bondage to pay for debt.

Brinny this is an excellent answer to question 117. I am totally amazed at the powers that God gave to the prophet Elisha. What and amazing prophet Elisha was.

He was cured of leprosy...what a glorious testimony.

Brinny thank you for you answer to question 117. Naaman was cured of leprosy by Elisha.

The power came from God. But for some reason God gave to Elisha amazing powers. With every chapter I read about Elisha I am overwhelmed with wonder at all the amazing things that he could do.

Was Elisha "special"?

There can be no doubt that Elisha was given special powers.

This seems to be connected to his request to Elijah

I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
2 Kings Chapter 2 verse 9

It was after this request to Elijah that Elisha was given his special powers.

118/ Is it possible for an axehead made of ordinary heavy iron to swim ?

Not in human terms, but with God ALL things are possible, and because ALL things are possible through God, an axehead can float and/or swim.

Was he "special"?

Is a person with special powers "special" because of his powers??--Or is a person "special" and then he is given "special" powers? God usually picks just the ordinary to do the extraordinary. But then, we are all "special" to God.

Elisha, like Elijah before him, was "ordinary". God did extraordinary things through Elisha. Reminds me of what Jesus said to His disciples about them doing more works than Him. Does that mean that they were more "special" or to be glorified more than the One they were living and breathing to give glory "to"?

mmksparbud,

Yes we are all special to God. We all have tallents that we can use in his service. Elisha was given special powers indeed.

But we learned in 2 King 6 verse 27 that Elisha's powers were not to be used to raise cash or profit. When a servant tried to get money for miracles he received heavy judgement friom God.

Yes Brinny you are correct. The glory should go to God.
