Agreed -- so, using the Bible as a basis for accepting or rejecting evolution only makes sense if that was its intended purpose.

Since the same people who claim that as its purpose also call it a literal historical record of events -- which it is clearly not -- what does that say about the claim?

Not even ultra-literal and orthodox (small 'o') belief accepts that. While such has tended to favour a creationist view-point, this is less well held than the view that Moses wrote all of the Pentateuch, not Adam. Where did that idea come from?

Bible you can't deal with. Creation you try to wave away. Evolution you can't discuss, without getting in a tizzy and throwing a hissy fit. All changed that evolved in life cannot be shown to not have started with the original created kinds, as the bible indicates. That makes it a created trait.

yes I can. What ticks me off is when people deliberately ignore what I try to say to them, and when people tell me I am wrong and provide at best weak logic that doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

The biggest misunderstanding among Bible scholars today, is that Moses wrote the book of Genesis. If we look at the entire Bible, you will notice that all of it has been written by eyewitness accounts. Many assume that the book of Genesis was made up of oral traditions. Just a bunch of stories passed on from one generation to the next, or that Moses borrowed from the pagans, the stories of Noah, and creation, and then wrote his own version in the Hebrew Bible. Is the Hebrew Bible a borrowed version of the pagan versions of the flood and creation, or is it the other way around? Is the book of Genesis the ORIGINAL DOCUMENT, and as time went on, and the populations grew, and as man moved away from the center knowledge, the creation accounts got all corrupted, hence we have the pagan accounts of creation from the Babylonians, etc.. and the original document was the book of Genesis?

Actually, it does. Evidence shows that humans (not even modern-day humans, mind you) first appeared in the fossil record about two million years ago (IIRC, someone correct me if I'm wrong), and it was much, much later that language and eventually written language first appeared. Now, considering that the evidence also shows that the earth is roughly four and a half billion years old, I would say that there was a significant amount of time (lol) that passed before humans started writing things down (i.e. prehistory).

But, I know you think the earth is only 6,000 years old but has the appearance of being much older. That's why I even mentioned "embedded age" to start with. Silly me.

The consensus among scholars is that Thalidomide was a wonder drug too, and that the Challenger was 'go' for throttle-up, and that Pluto was a planet, and that the Titanic was 'unsinkable'.

This is what happens when the Bible gets kicked out of academia.

Occam's Razor -- I doubt Eve wrote it, and I doubt Cain, Abel, or Seth wrote it.

It just seems to me that Adam is the most likely person to have written it.
