• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Whoa, hang on here...

You're telling me that you think that something which is based on OBSERVED evidience...

...is nonsense?

Come now. A bunch of these guys think the world is 6000 years old. What do you expect, Tiberius? Do you expect them to behave rationally?

And how does being a YEC change their behavior?

Do they dress differently? brush their teeth differently?

What, exactly?

They ignore evidence writ plain for all to see because it suits them. They put their own opinions above hard evidence.
That's not rational, AV. That's irrational.

And that causes them to dress differently, drive differently, or pay their bills late?

AV, I did not say they behave irrationally in every possible aspect of life. But are they irrational people, yes. They are. If someone refuses to accept plain evidence that is very irrational. Doing so consistently and across numerous fields transcends mere irrational behavior and makes someone an irrational person. For example if someone rejects the Holocaust said person is an irrational person because of the amount of evidence contradicting their delusion. People who reject an old universe is also an irrational person, possibly even more so as the evidence can be argued to be even stronger. If possible, that is.

Your apparent belief that irrational people behave differently in every situation is false. Observe if you will the mass support for fascism in the west prior to WW2. The concepts embraced by the fascists were highly irrational. But they tended to dress well, behave very well in most situations, obey the law and to pay their bills. Does that mean they were not irrational? No. They were extremely irrational.

So you're agreeing that you're ignoring hard evidence due to personal opinions and wishful thinking AV?
You had to understand by now it is not hard evidence, it is your wishful thinking and personal opinion if you ask him. As long as AV is in his reality and you are in your reality there will be no discussion.

I must be an idiot of extraordinary proportions.
I've been where he's at and while I upon researching it and reflecting upon it found his position to be as off-target as can be - in fact I have problems thinking of an analogy illustrating it's off-targetedness well enough. And even though I've been there and can even speak the lingo (at least in Norwegian) - amen hallelujah - I still cannot seem to communicate to people like AV what I've discovered.

Well, either I'm an idiot when it comes to communication or they are completely locked within a fanatical mindset.

I can understand that. I also usually feel like complete idiot that I've even tried to talk with them.

As long as folks like AV are in their pride, there is no discussion.

How is it misdiagnosed AV? You refuse to accept even the possibility of being wrong. Goodness, there are multiple creation stories in the bible, and you stick to only one of them as the truth. And even then you reject all other interpretations of those verses. And there are plenty at least as valid as your own. More so, given the multiple inconsistencies between the different creation parables. You ignore all evidence set before you in favor of your own interpretation of that one story.
Tell me, how is this not pride to the point of narcissism?

We were discussing me and my pride -- :)

That was off on a sidenote. Sorry if that felt like an attack on you by the way. BUt goodness AV, lighten up. You're human like the rest of us. You make mistakes. Big deal! (As in: It isn't a big deal) Mellow down chill and let God be God, not your personal opinions.
Hold your opinions regarding creation if you wish. All I'm asking is:
a: Admit to being human
b: Don't try to create an unseverable link between your position and Christ. If you're working against Him, which I suspect you inadvertedly may be, your position may wreak havoc to the point of costing other people eternal life. Can you justify that?
c: Not to create enmity, but pride IS a sin. That needs dealing with. It COULD be we're misinterpreting you here, but I suggest thinking and praying over it, mkay?!

where were we at in the topic again?

Greg was saying something about 'proteins being proven not to exist'. I'm not sure if he was joking or not though.

Were you joking Greg?
