Being the runt of my family, I'm not bench pressing Buicks by any means. So Im average size, average intelligence. However, unlike most "average" people I have lived and put myself out there.

So, Im nothing special.... I am what mistakes have made me. I learned what I could from those things, licked my wounds and kept going. God knows, Im stubborn more than I am wise or strong. But Im still going, so I guess there is a certain strength in that.

I agree. There isn't one definitive standard of intelligence. Some people are more intellectual and academically inclined than others, yet they lack common sense and prudence. Others may have never had the opportunity to be formally educated but they are philosophical by nature and learn well from mistakes. Personally, I think it's a person's ability to think about deep things and a willingness to change and learn from others that determines their level of intelligence. Anyway, I've hijacked this thread way too many times, so I will leave it at that.

As much as that might be a very fascinating experience, I'd have to decline. My palms get sweaty just thinking about it. I have gotten better at controlling my mind and relaxing my breathing, but that would be tough. I was so bad when I was young, that I'd panic if I was in a tight space for even a minute or so. I'll never forget when my two male cousins thought it would be hysterical to lock me in the big sliding laundry drawer (at my aunt's house). Their plan was to only keep me in there for a few minutes (after they had convinced me that they had left the room and abandoned me, lol), but the drawer got jammed and they couldn't get me out. Let's just say, I made a lot of noise! My aunt was not impressed. That was a pretty traumatizing holiday

That's weird, I've had mild claustrophobia ever since my neighbor locked me in a cabinet in his RV when I was four. Similar haunting memories...

Yes I have a friend that joined the Navy at 18. He was VERY book smart.... but dim as a 5 watt incandescent bulb when it came to common sense. Some times he would sound so stupid on common sense I would just look at him. "Are you serious?"

He and I were always having debates on subjects. Some of them intelligent discussions others simply over the complexities of circumstances in movies. Like the movie Volcano. Where lava is flowing through the streets, the lava flowing around buildings and all.

We debated over the validity of standing buildings. He believed the buildings would still be standing. I believe they would stand for a short time and topple due to the heat destroying the side of the building and support beam.

I argued that steel beams, while strong, would give way to the intense heat of lava and the weight of a building. A heat so high that it turns rock to a liquid. Yes, it wouldn't collapse instantly, but, it wouldn't be standing for a reliably long period of time. He tried to defend his position with intellect and arguments of architecture etc.

We never did reach a winner to the argument of common sense VS book smarts in that case and we left it at a stalemate.

Maybe not as a 1st date, but I thought of taking a girl on a run date. Thereby gauging her cardio-respiratory fitness or lack thereof.

I've never joined a book club. I think maybe it was the book selections that turned me off. Academic book club would be cool. Word of the Day, where each presents a list of terms they read in a reference book, would keep me returning. I also really like the idea of reading easy children's books and then over-analyzing it while drinking beer. Maybe it was the lack of beer that I didn't join a book club.

I agree. It's tough to enjoy a book club if none of the selections appeal to you. I have never been part of an official book club either. I have read books at times that were recommended to me by others. Sometimes the genre was not my preference and it was tough to finish. I actually think your vocabulary suggestion could be really cool. Oh, and over-analyzing children's books can be tons of fun. I don't need alcohol to be in that mind frame, lol.

I just started reading a new book (ending my lazy hiatus from reading), but once I finish that, I'm totally open to whatever selections you guys have for our club.

Haha, Oprah seems to hold more sway with her selections. I don't really know what style of book everyone enjoys reading. The book I just started is really good. It's Every Man Dies Alone. Any interest in reading that??? Just to put it out there, I sort of enjoying reading depressing novels. Well not necessarily depressing, but not happily ever after tales. My favorite Dickens' novel was Bleak House, haha

I'm looking to be emotionally challenged with what I read. The book I'm writing will hopefully reflect that.
