  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So did anybody watch this expose? I've always had a bad vibe about Benny. I know some people like him though. But the money he was spending on hotel rooms is outrageous and when they caught him off guard, he wasn't very forthcoming. Of course, I didn't expect it to be a flattering article, but it was even worse than I thought. :sigh:

Anyone else?

I would think that the government could come in if a person such as Hinn stated that *your* money would go to a specific cause and they would not verify that money went to that cause if you asked at a later date .

I won't go into some of my thoughts but will discuss the part that one of his staff suggested that it was ok for Hinn to live lavishly because executives of companys did it all of the time . Then , they would start talking about how he was a part of a "ministry" .

I am glad that they aired the episode .

I didn't watch it I was at church. I would hate to even try to judge him, I'll wait a couple of years to see what Jesus says about him.

I'm with you! I'm not going to condemn a man who has gone into India for 2 years and brought approx 5 million people to Christ! I may disagree with his lifestyle, but I can't disagree with his results. I expect to see him in heaven with a crown filled with gems, but God will probably have a looooong talk with him.

FM, Don’t you think it is just as wrong to “judge” the guilty as innocent as it is to judge the innocent as guilty? Judgmentalism is a two-way street. It is best to reserve judgment on individuals. But it is not wrong to judge institiutions and systems that breed corruption.

Jim all I presented was pure scripture. Make of it what you want.

By the way, why in the world would you rely on NBC? They are huge anti-Christians on that station.

I'm not sure if this question was directed toward me, or just in general. I certainly DON'T rely on NBC and know that they are anti-Christian. But I did watch the segment and parts of it bothered me. I am not Benny's judge or jury and have only watched him a handful of times on TBN a couple of years ago.

When they approached him, they didn't even tell him he was on camera, which was very sleazy. But I felt like Benny wasn't forthcoming and was evasive with his answers. I really don't want to judge the man, but I also don't feel led to give money to his ministry.

Jim M is right, I wish he would just divulge his financial records so he could be audited by an unbiased company. Would certainly clear up a lot of things. I don't doubt his salvation or that he loves the Lord.

Since I started this thread, I felt the need to explain where I stand. Which is that I'm reserving judgment. I think one of the first responders said they trust God to deal with preachers who may be out of line and I agree.

Just my humble $.02.

And God is only one that has that right. He did not appoint us as judges. He alone is the Judge of mankind.

You know, I've read the whole New Testament, ..well more than once, LOL, and not one time did the secular world ask to see what was in their purse. Or the believers apart from the Apostles, want to know what was in their purse. Of all the things they could have accused them for, that was not one of them. Apparently it just wasn't that important. Or maybe it would have been considered extreamly rude to even ask? Could it be that's the reason Jesus sent them out carrying no purse, was because of this very idea that money will always be the focus on a ministers life, and it blinds those that have the focus in the wrong place.

I only seen a little bit of it...I for one was watching extreme makeover home edition.
I personally don't want to watch him, something just don't seem right to me, so instead of watching and wondering, and trying to judge whether or not he is right or wrong I just don't watch.
To me if I had loads of money and wanted to stay at a nice hotel I would, I should have that right if its my money...now on the other hand if I said this much money is going to a certain charity and I went out and spent that same money on luxury hotels then I would be wrong and someone should call me on it.

I don't agree with Benny Hinn spending the money he does, but even more so, his theology is somewhat disturbing. He claims that the biblical Adam flew in space, that the Trinity is actually nine persons because each member is also a trinity, and that he has seen God, who is about 6'2" or 6'3" with long hair and eyes that look right through you. He claims that he has spoken to God directly, and that angels visit him in his bedroom. He has actually referred to himself as "a little messiah walking around on the earth."

There is something seriously wrong with this picture...

Amazing. He later changed what he had to say about this, but that seems to get lost somewhere. And be careful when you quote someone elses quotes about anyone. Did you believe Mike Moore when you heard him?

:o I listen to him alot and never heard him say any of this I don't know where you get your information but find a different source.

Don't you speak to God directly or do you need a middle man. Angels I have seen them. Haven't you? After all some has entertained angels unawares.

I would agree with that statement there is something seriously wrong with this picture.

I dont know if anyones posted this link yet sense I haven't had time to read each post.... but at least check into this website to get a better idea. Plus! for those who dont believe that Benny Hinn is doing 'good' then how come you dont go to one of his crusades? I know for a fact that there's power... and he isn't false at all! everyone has there opinions and thoughts but if you never go and see then how can one judge? I knew of a person who was healed when they watched his program...

^--- dont have enough posts yet to link but I'm sure you can put the rest togather. :p

Yeah me I was in pain when I was watching his program. I picked up my remote and went to change the channel when Bro. Benny at that moment said do not change the channel God is not through with you yet young lady. I dropped the remote and God just filled my living room. Needless to say the pain left. I still ain't figure out yet why people would believe An anti-christian station like NBC about Godly things.

I think one of the first responders said they trust God to deal with preachers who may be out of line and I agree.

And I disagree - for biblical reasons.

  1. “Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men of little account in the church! I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge” (1 Cor. 6.2-5). It is because we do not judge our own evildoers, especially those who elevate themselves to position of ministry (I am mentioning no names here), that the world steps in and does our job for us. Paul said this to “shame you”.
  2. “Judgment must begin at the house of God” (1 Peter 4.17). If it doesn’t, if we don’t judge our own, judgment might just come from the world. How often did God use Gentile nations (or NBC, CBS, CNN) to judge Israel?
IMO.

Was that hyperbole and I missed it?

So, what are you saying? That the healing came from BH or because of BH? I expect if we get a crowd of believers together all pooling their faith in Christ, miracles will happen no matter who is in the spotlight. Heck, it happens daily in local church and home groups?

Remember, the reason God chooses people like you and me to accomplish His work is so “that no flesh (not even a televangelist superstar) should glory in his presence”(1 Cor. 1.26-31).

Could it be that our heroes (idols, if you will) that we have elevated to exceptional prominence so much so that we defend them with the same zeal we defend the faith (even confusing the two at times) despite evidence to the contrary, that we are as responsible for their fall as they are when it finally comes? We have placed our idols on pedestals and God, for our sakes, has to bring the idol down. We have padded their pockets, flocked to their meetings, opened our hearts to their lies, made them VIPs and privileged people, caused them to think they are exceptional/special, defended their fraud, and, in fact, set them up for their fall. If we don’t judge - and instead defend - their fraudulent behavior then we leave it to God to do it. And didn’t God say, “No flesh shall glory in my presence”?

So, if a televangelist falls, IMO, (which they do with too much regularity) who is to blame. NBC? No, it is the evangelist's devotees who help bring about their destruction because they have given glory to man instead of to God. (How often have I heard on these threads how “anointed” the evangelist is or how he/she must be "chosen", as though the evangelist's anointing or election was somehow different or more special than the one that rests on you and me). It's setting them up for an inevitable fall.

Maybe NBC/CNN/CBS/ETC. - like the Babylonians, Persians, and Assyrians in the Bible - have become the heathen tools God uses to bring them down because judgment has not begun in the house of God.

It's a thought!
