A Belgian has been killed by medical euthanasia after pleading for death because a botched sex change operation to turn her into a man had resulted in "a monster".

Nathan Verhelst was euthaniused on the grounds of "unbearable psychological suffering"

Mother of sex change Belgian: 'I don't care about his euthanasia death'

Nathan, born Nancy, Verhelst, 44, was given legal euthanasia, most likely by lethal injection, on the grounds of "unbearable psychological suffering" on Monday afternoon.

Wim Distelmans, a cancer specialist who carried out the euthanasia, is the same doctor who late last year gave lethal injections to congenitally deaf twins who were frightened they were also going blind.

"I was the girl that nobody wanted," Mr Verhelst told Het Laatste Nieuws newspaper in the hours before her death.

"While my brothers were celebrated, I got a storage room above the garage as a bedroom. 'If only you had been a boy', my mother complained. I was tolerated, nothing more."

Mr Verhelst had hormone therapy in 2009, followed by a mastectomy and surgery to construct a penis in 2012. But "none of these operations worked as desired".

"I was ready to celebrate my new birth," he told the newspaper. "But when I looked in the mirror, I was disgusted with myself. My new breasts did not match my expectations and my new penis had symptoms of rejection. I do not want to be... a monster. "

The case will revive Belgium's debate over medical euthanasia as statistics show a steep year on year increase in the number of patients killed by doctors after a request to die.

Belgium recorded a record number of 1,432 cases of euthanasia in 2012, up 25 per cent from the previous year and the country is currently deciding whether to extend "mercy killing" legislation to children.

Remind me never to go to Belgium!

From the article:
A survey released on Wednesday has added to debate after finding that three quarters of Belgians support the euthanasia of children with incurable diseases, even without their consent.

I just feel so bad for this person in the OP. And the mother's callousness! :(

On Monday, Nathan, born Nancy, Verhelst, 44, was killed by lethal injection after requesting euthanasia on the grounds of "unbearable psychological suffering" because surgery to turn her into a man had resulted in "a monster".

Today, his unnamed mother confirmed Mr Verhelst's comments, made in an interview just before his death, that he had been an unwanted child and admitted she had not yet read his letter to her explaining why he asked to die.

"When I saw 'Nancy' for the first time, my dream was shattered. She was so ugly. I had a phantom birth. Her death does not bother me," she told Het Laatste Nieuws newspaper.

"I will definitely read it but it will be full of lies. For me, this chapter is closed. Her death does not bother me. I feel no sorrow, no doubt or remorse. We never had a bond."

After a life of being rejected by his parents as a daughter, Mr Verhelst had hormone therapy in 2009, followed by a mastectomy and unsuccessful surgery to construct a penis in 2012.

Wow, how sad.

There is something wrong with the mother. She is a nutjob.

I have some serious doubts about gender reassignment surgery in general. But it seems pretty clear that this woman was not someone who should have been seen as in the category of people who might legitimately need it, from any perspective.

This is sad. Instead of being given help and counseling, she was given death instead. That is not the answer. "Curing" people by eradicating them is not the solution. Reminds me of the book "The Giver."

I can't believe people are commenting that "this is the civilized way to do things, hopefully it will be implemented in more countries soon." What happens if your daughter or son wanted to be "euthanized?" Would you be the one to escort your mentally ill family member to the "euthanasia hospital?" Your friend is feeling depressed and down, do you recommend that she should go kill herself or do you try to help her?

What is wrong with society? What is wrong with people? We should be trying to confront the issues that these people have and helping them, not throwing them away in a dumpster.

This is worrying. This man didn't need gender reassignment in the first place, and I've never heard of people being euthanised for mental problems, only with terminal illnesses such as end-stage cancer or diseases like ALS. Without wanting to rush to snap judgements, the man's mother sounds like a terrible parent.

I've heard increasingly about people arguing that people should be able to obtain medical help for euthanasia in any circumstance they want it.

And lately a few cases of people being approved for gender reassignment surgery which seemed quite inappropriate too.

It is rather worrying.

It seems very likely the individual had alot of self-hatred. No surgery can cure that.

Sad - but this Europe we are talking about.
As this sort of behavior continues soon enough it will be celebrated..
as the society becomes desensitized to the monstrosity it is.
By next generation - they will argue this is good...for any reason.

Generation by generation more becomes acceptable.

Notice how no one would lend a single hand to counsel the person...and also - no one discerned the operation to begin with.
But then - i am of the faith that God gives us the bodies HE wants us to have..anything else is playing God to begin with.

No doubt.

Europe's faith in Christ doesnt seem to weigh in on any of their 'laws' and decisions.
And we have become more and more accepting as well following their awful lead.

This reminds me of that movie Soylent Green. (Where you reach a certain age and are euthanized.) Or that movie Logan's Run--the age was even younger in that movie. You were only allowed to live to 30.

I've asked you several times to engage in an actual debate about Europe and you keep dodging, so this time I expect sources for your claims. In original languages, please. In Belgium that means you have three choices: Dutch, French and - to a degree - German. Surely an expert like yourself will have mastered at least one of those.

Antigone, you are my biggest source. :)

You have spoke with pride of homosexual marriage, and abortion rights. I know Europe is more open sexually. France has nude beaches. The list goes on, but then most of which [sins] are now considered rights [or prudish if you dont savor them - not your words - but an overall feel from sources in entertainment] - which seems to suggest most folks from Europe [not all] cannot even disseminate what sins are now.
