My wife and I were BLESSED by her mom and dad watching our 2 kids for 3 days/2 nights. We went to a lakeside bed and breakfast. It was a wonderful time. We were both sort of weary and at the end of our respective ropes as both mom and dad and husband & wife.
The weekend vacation really reminded us that we are still very much in love and when you remove the daily stresses of work, a 3 y.o and an 8 y.o. you are free to shower attention on each other again.
The B&B had nice ammenities (2 person jaquzzi tub, feather bed, beach and garden views and private balcony), but that was just the icing on the cake.
We TALKED over a quiet dinner. We had a few drinks. We went geocaching all day (hiking for hidden treasures), we read on the beach and went swimming.
No running after kids, no shouting over kids not finishing chicken nuggets and juice. If you have any access to reliable daycare at all - a parent or sibling, who's willing to let you get away even just one night....by all means give it a try.
Go somewhere where you get a bit pampered, but the real treat is finding your spouse again.
