I'm not to sure if i'll enjoy this, most new Batman shows and movies take away from the original comic books, showing a darker side to the Dark KNight, like the new Kids Wb "The Batman" takes away a lot of what Bruce Wayne really was like, but I can say if this movie does a good job of showing the origins of BAtman it can succeed to the comic fanatic crowd (don't worry, I aint one of em)

Well, Batman is the darkest superhero in comics. He's always had a troubled life. The 2nd Robin was beaten to death by Joker and then killed by a bomb. Batgirl was shot in the back by Joker. Joker took pictures of her while she writhes in agony and sends them to her father. Batman never kills but he will still break bones, etc. I'd say that it's pretty close to the comics (the campy era of Batman is forgettable).

Anyone remember Batman the Animated Series that came out in 1992? They were the definitive Batman cartoons in my opinion, and some of the best Batman characterisations right after Miller's Dark Knight Returns. Here's some pics from the series:

I agree Nightwing, the campy Batman wasn't Batman. It was funny and quirky and a phenomenon in it's own right, but it's just not Batman. Batman is supposed to be dark.

I think it's a toss up between Batman and Spawn. Batman gets points for the things you listed and also having the tragedy occur when he was just a child, but Al Simmons (spawn) also gets points for literally going through hell and back to see his wife again, only to find out she's married to his best friend and birthed a child he never could with her. Toughy.

I don't think it'll be better than the first Batman with Keaton, but I am curious to see how it turns out.

I just came back home from seeing it and...

BATMAN BEGINS ROCKS!!!

It was such a great movie!! Everything about it was excellent. Way to redeem the series of movies! I will definitely see it again in the theatre. Wow I love this movie! :D Christian Bale is a terrific Bruce Wayne/Batman and Michael Caine is a great Alfred. The tone of the movie was really done well, and the editing and sound were superb. A great way to start off some new Batman movies hopefully, and hopefully will keep to this level of movie making and not let another Batman & Robin happen.

I agree whole heartedly. It was quite good, and it showed what should have been showed in the first movie.

I saw it in IMAX and I have to say, it is the best comic book film ever. It's really dark and gritty. The performances by each of the actors is great, although Holmes was not as spectacular as the others. She was still good though and a pretty strong female character. Much less annoying than Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane in the Spider-man movies. The action is quite quick and brutal. Those expecting fights similiar to The Matrix will be disappointed. It's very close up and usually from the criminal's point of view. This is a long film, but the story is engrossing. There are no colorful, campy villians. There is a villian that would makes Osama Bin Laden look like some child. Another villian (Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow) wears a mask (only when he's gassed someone with fear gas). You see the effects of the fear gas and it is pretty disturbing, especially when you see Batman through fear gas. Pretty much everything is explained throughout the film. How he got his gadgets, his suit, his car. How he discovered the bat cave. It's fantastic. The batmobile chase is alot of fun and what enhances it is the fact that there is little CGI (if any) involved. The characters were not 2 dimensional and it was great to see a Batman film focus on Batman himself and not the villians. There is two twists at the end. One opens up to a sequel. The music is excellent. It's quite epic and not like the standard superhero music we get. Christian Bale IS Batman. He is the best. The film itself is more mature and a helluva lot less campy. It is dark, but there is humor in it.

I just saw it today and am still amazed. I knew it would be good after reading some reviews online (not that I normally listen to critics) but I just had this feeling that it'd be good. IMO I think its even better than the Keaton Batman movies!

I think it did a good job of reviving the franchise and I am completely stoked about the sequels! I'm def. gonna see this again sometime soon!

I agree completely. This movie is everything the Keaton Batman should have been. All the performances were, in my opinion, top notch. It did an amazing job of putting all the how and why of the Batman myth into a logical package. Like how did he learn to fight and where did he get all the equipment? I have to say as well, I was impressed with how they handled the relationship between Bruce and Alfred (Thumbs up to Michael Cain BTW!). And the ONE person I was a bit concerned about, Katie Holmes, managed to pull off an amazing performance. Not once, did I think to myself, "Hey it's Joey from Dawsons Creek!".

Loved it, loved it, loved it.

Can't wait for the sequel to come. I like the way they're keeping our mouths watering for "The Joker" in the sequel.

Hey, was anyone else pleasantly surprised to see that they added Ra's Al Ghul?

I think they already made that Joker movie, the one with Michael Keaton in it.

And yes, I loved seeing Ras Al Ghul in it. :D

Definatly one of the best Batman films. The second best, to be exact. The first is by far the best and my favorite superhero movie to date.

This movie was great.

It's got a really dark and sometimes pi*sed-off Batman, which I really like.

When we "first" see Ra's Al Ghul, I was wondering why Ra's Al Ghul looked nothing like the Ra's Al Ghul in "The Animated Show" (that's the first time I've seen the Ra's Al Ghul character); Neeson's character on the other hand, looked very similar to the Ra's Al Ghul I've seen.

I also liked the way they made us think that the Scarecrow was the main villain, when in fact, he was not.

Yeah, but I can't help but think that they're going to make an attempt to "do it over".

Don't get me wrong, I loved Batman and Batman Returns. But now that they have all this new movie technology, they have the ability to work wonders with the movie.

I can't wait to see Superman get redone as "Superman Returns" in 2006. Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor?? Ooooh yeaaah baby!!
