  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Where do souls go after death?

the souls that are blessed are free and are not detained, so they meet one another, visit one another and talk about what they used to do in this world and what happened to the people of this world. So each soul will be with its friends who did similar good deeds. The soul of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is with the highest companions. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And whoso obey Allaah and the Messenger (Muhammad), then they will be in the company of those on whom Allaah has bestowed His Grace, of the Prophets, the Siddeeqoon (those followers of the Prophets who were first and foremost to believe in them, like Abu Bakr As‑Siddeeq), the martyrs, and the righteous. And how excellent these companions are!”[al-Nisa’ 4:69]

Then, back to my earlier question: Is there a space other than the Paradise and the Hell. According to what you said, the answer MUST BE yes. Do you agree? So in the future (past the end time), there are people in the Hell, in the Paradise, AND in between these two places.

‘There is no way to achieve the Grace of Allah, His mercy, and salvation from His chastisement and punishment save by tawassul through him and obedience to him. He (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) ) is the one who shall intercede for the creation, he is the possessor of the lofty station (al-maqām al-maḥmūd) whom the first and last envy over him. He is the greatest of the intercessors in stature, and the highest of them in rank with Allah………………………So, whoever the Messenger supplicates and intercedes for, he may perform tawassul to Allah through his intercession and supplication just as his companions performed tawassul to Allah through his supplication and intercession, and just as the people shall perform tawassul to Allah on the Day of Judgement through his (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam’s) supplication and intercession.’

(Ibn Taymiyya: ‘A Noble Principle Concerning Tawassul and Means’).

Have a good day.

Thank you for making such a long answer to this issue. I do wish this issue could have a more clear answer, so no interpretations are needed.

What would happen on the "day of resurrection"? What would happen to:

1. Faithful people who are still alive?
2. Faithful people who are dead?
3. People who was before the Quran was written? (i.e. before Allah was known)
4. Bad people?
5. The earth?
6. Muhammad and other saints?
7. Angels?
8. Allah?

Sorry for the multiple questions. But an answer to each with one or two sentences would be very good. Particularly, I like to know if the answers were given in the Quran.

Well, there are graves and the Heavens. I don't know if there is anything else besides them. The time after a person's death until the Day of Judgement is the period of al-Barzakh. We know the souls of martyrs are in green birds roaming Paradise and their cages hang from His Throne. We know that the Prophets, better than the martyrs, have their souls reunited with the best of companions. The souls of children also roam Paradise.

No one will enter Paradise with body & soul until the Hereafter begins. And they will not be anywhere else besides Paradise or Hell after they were brought to account.

What does your signature graph mean?

The picture? It's of a Palestinian woman (I think maybe Mother Palestine?) who is rising from the destruction of her city. I believe the white birds around her may symbolize the dead. She will not perish, no matter how many attempts are made to destroy her or beat her into submission. Each time she will rise again. I believe the artist (Imad Abu Shtayyah) named this painting "We Shall Return" and it was made last summer when Israel was pounding Gaza.

I think it's a nice symbolic picture of the entire Muslim nation, not just for Palestine.

What would happen on the "day of resurrection"? What would happen to:

1. Faithful people who are still alive?
2. Faithful people who are dead?

Everyone will have died by the Day of Judgement.

"Every soul will taste death. Then to Us will you be returned." (Surah al-'Ankabut 29:57)

As for what will happen to the righteous believers:

So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record! Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account." So he will be in a pleasant life - In an elevated garden, Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near. [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past." (Surah al-Haqqah 69:19-24)

So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. (Surah al-Insaan 76:11-12)

There are many more, but I'll leave it here.

3. People who was before the Quran was written? (i.e. before Allah was known)

We believe Allaah has always been known among humans as Adam (peace be upon him) was a Muslim and a Prophet and all Prophets taught their people worship and obedience of Allaah. Allaah has sent many Prophets throughout time to teach the same thing.

"The scholars (may Allaah have mercy on them) differed concerning the people of the fatrah – who are those lived in the time when no Messenger came to them and were in a place where the call did not reach them – and those who come under the same rulings as them, such as the children of the mushrikeen. There are several points of view, the most correct of which is that they will be tested on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever obeys the command of Allaah will be saved and whoever disobeys Him will be doomed."

Testing in the Hereafter of those who lived in the intervals between two Prophets

4. Bad people?

And the record [of deeds] will be placed [open], and you will see the criminals fearful of that within it, and they will say, "Oh, woe to us! What is this book that leaves nothing small or great except that it has enumerated it?" And they will find what they did present [before them]. And your Lord does injustice to no one. (Surah al-Kahf 18:49)

But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record And had not known what is my account. I wish my death had been the decisive one. My wealth has not availed me. Gone from me is my authority." [ Allah will say], "Seize him and shackle him. Then into Hellfire drive him. (Surah al-Haqqah 69:25-31)

Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish that I were dust!" (Surah an-Naba 78:40)

The Day when man will remember that for which he strove, And Hellfire will be exposed for [all] those who see - So as for he who transgressed And preferred the life of the world, Then indeed, Hellfire will be [his] refuge. (Surah an-Nazi'at 79:35-39)

There are also more verses like these, but I'll leave it here.

5. The earth?

They have not appraised Allah with true appraisal, while the earth entirely will be [within] His grip on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens will be folded in His right hand. Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him. And the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall dead except whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on. And the earth will shine with the light of its Lord, and the record [of deeds] will be placed, and the prophets and the witnesses will be brought, and it will be judged between them in truth, and they will not be wronged. (Surah az-Zumar 39:67)

When the earth is shaken with convulsion And the mountains are broken down, crumbling And become dust dispersing. (Surah al-Waqiah 56:4-6)

And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow - (Surah al-Haqqah 69:14)

There are more verses, but I think these should suffice for now.

6. Muhammad and other saints?

See above for what will happen to the righteous believers (the Prophets top the list of righteous believers)

7. Angels?

They will obey the command of their Lord, whatever it is. At least one will blow the trumpet.

The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct. (Surah an-Naba 78:38)

8. Allah?

It is to Him that this Day belongs (He is the Owner of the Day of Judgement as we're told in the first chapter of the Qur'aan). He will present every individual's deeds to them and question His creation. He is Just and He is our ultimate Judge.

What evil? Will the evil be no more on the Day of Judgement? What is the end of the evil (in Quran)?
And, what is the origin of the evil?

Are angels functioning today?
If yes, how do them function?

Paul gave you such a long answer because this is a hotly debated issue within Islam. He was giving you a feel for the debate.

Is the red square on her dress only a decoration? Or does it means something?

Who wrote the Quran?

The Qur'an was said to have been revealed to Muhammad through the archangel Gabriel (Jabriel.) But Muhammad was illiterate, so he didn't write it down. Those who heard the Prophet recite it either copied it down using various materials or they themselves memorized it by heart. When those who had memorized the Qur'an started to die, the Caliph Uthman had it compiled and written down in the form we have it today.

How long did it take to finish the writing of Quran from beginning to end? May I say about 100 years?
Do we know how many people were involved in the writing?

The entire Qur'an comes from Muhammad others are simply copying it down. It is revealed over a 23 year period. The canonization process under Uthman was completed about thirty years later.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'record of history' but it retails many of the Biblical stories, along with material from the oral traditions of both Christianity and Judaism. It is also recounts the story of Arab prophets not mentioned in the Bible. It furthermore eludes to historical events going on at the time.

Huh? That's a new one on me!

Hello Susan,

‘It has been narrated on the authority of Masruq Who said: We asked 'Abdullah about the Qur'anic verse:" Think not of those who are slain in Allah's way as dead. Nay, they are alive, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord.." (iii. 169). He said: We asked the meaning of the verse (from the Holy Prophet) who said: The souls of the martyrs live in the bodies of green birds who have their nests in chandeliers hung from the throne of the Almighty. They eat the fruits of Paradise from wherever they like and then nestle in these chandeliers. Once their Lord cast a glance at them and said: Do ye want anything? They said: What more shall we desire? We eat the fruit of Paradise from wherever we like. Their Lord asked them the same question thrice. When they saw that they will continue to be asked and not left (without answering the question). They said: O Lord, we wish that Thou mayest return our souls to our bodies so that we may be slain in Thy way once again. When He (Allah) saw that they had no need, they were left (to their joy in heaven).’

(Sahih Muslim: Book 20; Number 4651).

Quote:

‘What we need to know is that souls dwell on different levels in the state of existence known as the Barzakh, the partition between this life and the Hereafter. In fact, there is quite a considerable disparity between them.

‘Some souls will be in the highest ranking, such as the souls of the Prophets (peace be upon them). Even they will be in different rankings with respect to one another, as Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) saw them during his Night Journey.

‘Other souls will be as if encased within green birds and will be able to go wherever they please in Paradise. These are the souls of some of the martyrs. Other martyrs would be prevented from entering Paradise on account of an unpaid debt from their worldly lives.

‘And Allah knows best.’

(Sheikh Nâsir al-Zahrânî - from the site ‘Islam Today’.

I hope this helps

Have a great day.

Paul.

What? You mean they didn't ask for their souls to return to their bodies so they could enjoy all those huris?
