I agree with you , One Voice Among Many , and with President Obama , Cardinal Nichols , and the Archbishop of Canterbury .

I think we are in good company .

One more whose words I can quote on this issue is our Holy Father , Pope Francis .

Pope Francis has said, " The speed with which information is communicated exceeds our capacity for reflection and judgement, and this does not make for more balanced and proper forms of self-expression. The variety of opinions being aired can be seen as helpful, but it also enables people to barricade themselves behind sources of information which only confirm their own wishes and ideas, or political and economic interests. The world of communications can help us either to expand our knowledge or to lose our bearings. "

I agree. I think it is ironic and truly disingenuous to claim that President Obama was untruthful when the current occupant in the White House (who it seems was unfortunately elected by the compromise of religious faith, moral convictions and traditional values) is well known for his dishonesty.

A reminder for non-Catholic visitors and visitors who aren't members of this faith group:

No debating is allowed in this forum.

TLT's Statement of Purpose

Terms of Service and Christian Forum Rules
I've been a member of countless forums beginning in 1997. I've never had such a hard time with "you're not allowed to debate on this thread" as I'm having here. It seems to be imperative that you carefully read the thread location and any relevant rules in the forum rules before you post anything on a thread.

When in Rome... I guess.

BTW, on another site I frequent, this is called out by using the word "caucus" in the title. "Catholic Caucus" means only catholics. "Protestant Caucus" means only protestants, etc. In this case, the title just says, Discussion in 'The Lord's Table - Liberal Catholics' started by Colin, Yesterday at 3:06 PM." That is not enough information to tell me to not post on the thread. I know, ignorance of the law is no excuse, but sometimes it's rather difficult to know what the law is...

Perhaps the forums you have been a member of have not been visited by those whose primary purpose is to post anti-Catholicism .

It is sad that we have to have these rules , but there are some so-called Christian forums which display an anti-Catholicism which I thought had disappeared decades ago .

One "Catholic forum" I used to be a member of was persistently wrecked by anti-Catholic bigots .

That makes sense. I've noticed that I can't post even if I want to in the singles forums. I assume that is because I have the attribute "married". Maybe they could do that with denominational forums as well.

Not a big deal. Like I said in my other post, when in rome...

Western people love polemic, not consensus building. And the internet has become a giant playground for polemicism.
Yes , hence the concern of so many leaders regarding social media .

It's worth reflecting on some more words of Pope Francis......

" What is it, then, that helps us, in the digital environment, to grow in humanity and mutual understanding?

" We need, for example, to recover a certain sense of deliberateness and calm.

" This calls for time and the ability to be silent and to listen.

" We need also to be patient if we want to understand those who are different from us.

" People only express themselves fully when they are not merely tolerated, but know that they are truly accepted.

" If we are genuinely attentive in listening to others, we will learn to look at the world with different eyes and come to appreciate the richness of human experience as manifested in different cultures and traditions. "

@Colin, this continuous outright disregard for this forum's Statement of Purpose and rules by non-Catholic members has really got out of hand, so I reported it to an administrator. Hopefully this problem will be dealt with very soon and the continuous violation of these rules will be stopped.
We can hope , sister . :)

Just like St. Francis, he takes reforming the Church seriously. And that's bound to ruffle feathers.

Actually and truthfully Trump is doing more to promote the Christian faith than Obama did in his many years in office.

Whilst you are composing your answer to my question , just a few words .

I have lived during the papacies of 7 popes .

Pope Pius XII .
Pope John XXIII .
Pope Paul VI .
Pope John Paul I .
Pope John Paul II .
Pope Benedict XVI .
Pope Francis .

I have taken them all seriously .

They are all , as Bishops of Rome , successors of St Peter .

I suggest that , if any Catholic has not or does not take any of these popes seriously , the problem rests with her/himself rather than with one of these popes .

A bit ironic that in a thread about the internet's ability to allow people to cocoon themselves from hearing the opinions of outside voices that we are reminded that differing opinions by outside voices are not allowed to be expressed in this thread. however, The Admin has made it clear that only DEBATE ABOUT CATHOLIC RELIGIOUS BELIEFS is off limits. So apparently debating the subject of this particular OP is perfectly fine.
